Used Gt40 "X" heads

Ive been calling around and have found some used GT40 "X" heads here in san antonio and ive got some questions about them. For one thing they are 150 bux a piece...they are supposedly rebuild, but they sound a little too cheap. They will also port/polish and do a 3 angle valve job for 150 each head, is this reasonable enough to get done or not worth the money on a street car? Also, why do i usually find alot of things about the gt40 "p" heads...are they a better choice if i can find them? If i do decide to get the heads i will probably put some needle tipped fulcrom roller rocker arms and a f303 cam, but the machine shop needs to know what springs i want...is double springed too much, or should i go ahead and get triple springs? Are these heads pretty decent for my application, do they increase my compression? And finally is it worth getting them machined for the Locwire gaskets or should i just use regular graphite head gaskets? Also any tips on how to tell if the heads are in good condition when i go to look at them are welcome also.

Try this.... look at the X heads!! see if you can find out the shop that freshed them up!! The Ps are better than the 40s, and now that a bunch of wrecked explores are hitting the junk yards... easyer to find!! BUT... get you hands on the X's and see what you think!! IF you go to the P's from a yard, You should have the valve job freshend and the heads surfaced flat... add'l cost with the heads. Cool??

Just me..............................

if you dont want those gt-40x heads for 150 each pm me...i will take them

Troy - my guess is that someone doesn't know what they have. $300 for a set of X heads in decent shape is a steal. Easy check -- the X/Y/Z Ford Racing heads are aluminum. The X's have 1.94" intakes; 1.54" exhausts. Either the seller has no idea what they're worth, or they're simply cast iron GT40 heads -- more likely the latter. Ask them if they're aluminum. If they are and they are sound - s na tch them up for $300.

Sounds like someone with wrong info or it's a scam.

The heads used are worth like $700-$800, and $150 for the work sounds absurdly cheap.

And if the info is correct, do you want someone that is clueless on heads modifying yours?

Example, i had to pay $410 to have my Y heads, milled, valve jobbed, and bowls cleaned up.
You are paying $110 less, and getting port work to boot. And if your heads are rebuilt, then they probably needed guides, seals, possibly some valves. Which would of cost more than he's selling them for.
