Tree fiddy! Honestly we'd need more info like:
how many miles, was it a race car?
What size are they?
Any repairs done to them?
How long have they been off the car and how were they stored?
Not on a race car, just a street car, no repairs done, stored indoors in a clean garage, been off the car for probably 14 years. Not sure what size they are, they were on a 306 with an Edelbrock 600 Carb and performer intake. The car was totaled and the engine/drive train was salvaged. A friend of mine is selling the parts.
Just about all those are positives in my book!
Were the head attached to the motor the last 14 years? I ask because you store heads and cranks upright (standing up on end) because if you lay them flat they will warp under their own weight.
If I was buying from a friend I'd be inclined to pay a little more than if buying from a stranger with less history of the parts.
I'd guess that 20 years ago and the motor being a 306 they are probably 170cc intake runners. What's your friend asking for them?
I offered him $500, he said he paid $800 for them new back then. They are coming with rockers and ARP bolts. He also said we can probably work out a payment plan.
Any idea what the headers and X pipe are worth. Are JBA shorties better than the Hooker equal length shorties I have now?
First gen tfs heads don't say trickflow on them. I believe there's a serial number by the exhaust ports for them which you can give tfs a call and have them run for you to find out the exact model. I believe the streets had an exhaust port for the smog junk while the track heats did not but it's been years.
Those first gen 170cc heads were good but came with very weak valve springs. Also make sure they have bronze guides. I would clean them up and replace the springs, seals and check for play in the guides
And JBA headers are usually really good quality but can't speak for such an old piece
which trick flows? I sold my old twisted wedge 170's a year ago for $1000 shipped. They were freshened up and had a good valve train on them but no porting. They were about 15 years old.
Not sure which ones yet. They have roughly 5k miles on them, have Ford Racing roller rockers installed (not sure on ratio), and have been ported and polished. They are at his Dad's house a few hours away, hopefully will know more this weekend.
