since i can't find any answers using search i will ask here. i have some 351 swap headers and want to know if i can use them on a 302 for now
one is on and the other hits the starter. i have an adjustable starter and have not tried to adjust it yet if the block will let me but i want to see if it has been done. they are equal length shorties.

Interesting question.

Sorry I don't have a simple yes/no answer for you.

If you do get sufficient clearance with the starter, the other likely issue is getting the headers to mate up with the midpipe. You may have to pull the midpipes inboard to get it bolted together.

The stock starter could be replaced with a small diameter starter. Powermaster makes one, and I am sure there are others out there.

Good Luck

I've put Heddman 351W Long tube headers 1 3/4 and stuck them on a 302. They fit but hang really low and rubbed on every speed bump.

yah they would work except for the fact they would be low. the only real difference between 302's and 351w's is abot 1.3 inches. so the 351w swap headers will be 1 and 3/10 of a inch to high. if that makes sence to yah.

the starter i have is a small adjustable one and the block will not allow me to adjust it any further. the header will nut sit flush with the head so i think i will have a muffler shop heat it up and bend the header out a little.

I've found out that 302 headers don't fit 351W

Who makes these equal length shorty 351w swap headers?

i got them used for 65 bucks but i believe the man said they were motorsports or they were shipped in a motorsports box so who knows. i really think if the tubes were heated up and the header was pryed with a bar it would bend away from the starter. i found a stock mini starter from my old tbird and it looks like it will work with these headers. if it fits i may sell the hi torque mini starter i have.
