Hi im currently in the market to purchase a new v6 mustang but ive been having trouble deciding on what to purchase.
I have 2 options:
option #1 is a 2010 v6 fully loaded
option #2 is a 2011 v6 base.& is it even worth it without the performance package?

Im on a budget so im forced to pick. Your opinions are highly appreciated.

Without a second of thought I would say the 2011 base car. The new power plant is 10000% worth it. Have you driven the cars? If performance is at all a factor, the drive will make up your mind for you.

I know a couple folks that have v6's, one a 2010 and one a 2011. The difference between the two engines is night and day, the 2011 is simply in a league of it's own, so much more refned and more powerful, and the gas mileage is better too if that's of any concern to you. The 2010 is not bad but it seems like a boat anchor compared to the 2011 in my opinion. If I had to decide between the two it would definitely be the 2011. Hope this helps as well.

I'm willing to bet nobody on here says 2010 V6 lol. Go with the 11, they come pretty well equipped in base trim and I think you'd really regret getting a 2010 when you could have more power and more MPGs from a newer car...

2011. Like what has been said, more power, better gas mileage, etc.

Owner of 2010 V6

As a owner of a 2010 V6 i would have to say Go for the 2011!!! Love my car but really More HP and better MPG makes it worth it ! Now I am hoping for a person to pull out in Front of me to destroy my 2010 and give No Options for my wife to let me get the 2011 !!

im in the same market and the steering wheel sold me on the premium package. the base model steering wheel is horrible. since this is the first car that i'm gonna buy as an adult brand new the way i want it the overall feel of the premium package really enhances the car's appeal.

however, the base model package is TOTALLY worth it! if you dont care about the ugly steering wheel or any other features the car is definitely worth every red cent. the few thousand extra really just make it feel like a 30+K car IMO so thats kinda where i should be going.

do NOT buy a 2010 under any circumstance unless its a GT. you're on a car forum which means maybe you're a car guy. you WILL regret it unquestionably. the 2011 is a real performance car. the 2010 v6 is a secretary's car.

This V6 thing just blows me away, everybody screams at Ford for more power so in 2011 they give them a huge amount of power and 95% of the new Mustangs are V6s I can"t understand that.I am 64 years old and have had many early Mustangs 289,390,351,428,and it was always about more HP and speed, now we get it and it is all about the V6,and yes I do own a NEW 2011 Mustang it is a 5.0 GT Thank you Ford, what am I missing?

Not everybody can afford a V8 muscle car, whether it be insurance cost, fuel cost or just plain cost of the car in general. I just ordered a 2011 GT/CS, and all the mustangs I ever owned have been V8's, too me it's not meant to have a mustang without a V8 but hey I totally respect the V6 guys they are enthusiasts just as much as anyone.

No reason for anyone to every buy a V6 mustang that's not a 2011 now. Go with the basic 2011 V6. Then go aftermarket for a CAI, Tune and get some 3.73 gears (to me this is a must for both the V6 and GT). I know you can't get 3.73s as an option with the V6 so you would have to do that with the aftermarket. I can see this V6 running mid to low 13s with CAI, Tune and gears. Both the new V6 and GT are absolutely great cars.

For me its the gas mileage. I drive at least 100 miles every day and was going to be forced to buy a high mileage car because I can't afford the gas to drive a big v8 around. I had a 2001 GT that I absolutely loved (and miss dearly) but would have had to get rid of it with my current drive. Previous v6 Mustangs just didn't appeal to me because the gas mileage wasn't that great and the performance sucked. There were better cars (in my opinion) available in that price range. As soon as I saw I could get a v6 with 300+ HP plus get ~30 mpg / hwy I was sold. It's not the GT but performs better than my 2001 and fits my current lifestyle. I am not going to be able to swing it until early 2011 but I genuinely look forward to it.

The performace package basically adds brakes, bigger wheels and suspension upgrades -- all of which you could do later with aftermarket parts. The base v6 is totally worth it.

Will the CAI and the 3.73 gears void my warranty? I know the answer is yes but is there a way to get around voiding the warranty but still getting a tune?

I don't think a CAI and tune would void the warranty. Also I think if you have Ford install the gears it will not void the warranty.

If the cold air intake doesnt void my warranty then ill do that first but with the tune and gears i have a bad feeling that it will void it.

A tune would void the warranty, so will a CAI. Unless you are friendly with the dealer.

Not only should you go with the 2011 because of what everyone said above, but the resale value will be so much higher on the 2011, it will offset any additional $$ you spend on it. So money should not be the issue here. It's not much of a choice at all.

dont take this the wrong way but car modding 101: you're totally wrong about the mod thing.

luckily you're totally right about the 2011 thing

coyote - the 5.0 is epic but its 8K more and some of us are cool with 13's and 30+mpg
