V6 or V8 for next car

I'm looking to trade in the 2000 Focus with in the year for a New Stang. I priced both the Mustang V6 Coupe and the Mustang V8 GT. I'm not sure which way to go. I love to get the GT but I make only $16 an hour with some OT once in a while. I live in the high tax state of NJ and I'm not sure I can afford a GT. My Focus ZX-3 is 6 years old and it runs great (knock on wood) and is in good shape. I thinking of trading it in while it is in good condition and has a good trade in value. The Focus is paid off too. The V6 stang is rated at 210HP and with some mods I can get it up to 225 matching the 88 GT already in the stable. I want a 5 speed stick, no auto for me, they stink. It looks like the V6 at this time is a better option, so post if you want and offer your views.

or buy a used 2005 or somthing.

they will be worth more in the long run.

I don't think you'd like the V6 as much as the V8.

As for as colors I'm chosing ether Red (the color of my hair) or Black (I seen one in person and loved it). I would get a blue one if Midnight Blue was an option.

Life just got a little easier for me to justify a 5 year loan instead of 4 year now that ford has made their warranty 5 years 60k miles on all 2007 vehicles. I can afford a Premium package instead of skimping on a deluxe, plus I found out I am getting a raise by the end of the year and a 1,000 a month raise in about 22 months. If you could get a base deluxe at close to invoice, you might be able to swing it. I mean if you can afford to mod a V6 than you can probably afford to pay the little extra a month and start out with 90 extra hp.

I am also glad to see this go up But it is only on the Drive Train. Thats only on the motor,transmission drive shaft and Axle. Not bumper to bumper.

I'm not too sure that does most of us here any good, that's just more time to have to wait on getting the supercharger. A lot of us here have probably already voided the warranty before reaching 10,000 miles anyway. If ford had of tuned these cars for performance strait from the factory and offered 4.10's for an option everyone would probably get along better with their local service manager.

Get the V8! I also considered getting a V6 before I bought a GT and I'm very happy I chose the GT. The V6 exhaust sounds so weak and not nearly as much fun to drive. If you can't afford it yet, wait a year saving up extra money then buy it next year or something.

The GT is so much more fun to drive than the v6. Do what James said, "iIf you can't afford it yet, wait a year saving up extra money then buy it next year or something."

yeah, that goes without saying, but sometimes, compromises are necessary.

After a year of driving my V6 manual, I've never once regretted buying it.

Sure! especially if I didn't care about the extra gas money and insurance and depreciation, etc ....

Good points made all the way around. It's a tough choice no doubt, however the best way to tell is test drive, test drive & test drive! Then do what you can afford.

A good point, I know a GT would be more fun and My insurance would not go up to much because I'm 45 but there is no telling what the price of gas will be in the future, it could go down, or it could go up due to a major war (WW3) or a Hurricane in the right place. I still think a 210hp V6 with a 5 speed stick will be more fun then a 135hp 2L Zetec (4 Cylinders) with a auto trans. I'm looking to upgrade soon before the Focus has a major problem, the early Foci have a lot of bugs in them.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the insurance cost for the V8.

I'm over fifty, and the insurance on my week old 2007 GT only costs $44 more every six months than insurance on my ex-wife's 2002 Focus ZX3.

There isnt a big difference in gas mileage between the V6 and V8... Maybe 2 MPG difference. Add an intake and underdrive pullies to the V8 and you could get better gas mileage then a stock V6. Also Insurance on the GT was only $20 more a month then the V6 for me. Get the GT!

And keep in mind that a mustang GT should keep a much better value than the V6 if we look at the previous generation of mustang. But then again, maybe the new mustang value will stay very good even with the V6... such a nice car on both forms!!

It really depends on your budget, if you think you might not have enough money for the GT, get the V6 or you'll regret it later. Nothing's worse than having a very nice car but no more money for nothing else...

I'm 53 and never had a ticket. Check the price of insurance before you buy. Don't assume anything. I had a 2003 Mach 1 a couple of years ago. Insurance was quite expensive even at my age. It actually got better gas mileage, though, then my daugher's V6. Of course, I had a 5-speed and she had an automatic. But I wouldn't have guessed that the Mach 1 would beat it on gas mileage.

They are selling brand new V6 coupes for $17,500 out the door. You might be able to do better if you really work on them. I don't know how you can beat that.

I agree with you on the money thing. I am glad I did not get a v8 cause you watch gas is fixin to go up another 30 cents and at 5 mpg better than a 8.
As for them holding there value it's only gonna hold its value if you park it in the Gayrage and dont put no miles on it.

Oopps let me see, my sticker says 19 and 28 and let me see...... OK I'm looking at a GT vert sticker now that says 17 and 23 but it is a auto and coupe is 25.
My apologies sir.
I actually get 29 mpg every time I fill up cause i dont horse around much.
