v6 to v8 swap info needed:

Hello all, let me tell ya right off the bat I did a search for the swap but I couldn't find any relavent (sp?) info. Also I can't use v6 or v8 in my search so I came up with a lot of just 351w swap info. So my question is anybody have a full write up on the v6 to v8 swap for a mustang? I'm getting a 00 v6 for like 4k so I can't pass the oprotunity (sp again?) up to buy this car. So in the near furture I plan to spend a few large dollar bills on converting it. So any info would be greatly appreciated and I'm sorry that I know this question has been asked 100000000000000000000x, I just couldn't search for the right words.

Good luck with the swap. Might I recommend for $3000 the Mach1 motor from Karkraft.

do you have an idea of what kind of motor your looking at to swap into your 6?

Here it goes:

-engine
-wiring harness
-tranny bell housing
-k member
-mounts
-V8 radiator fan and assembly
-V8 a/c unit (IF you want a/c)

You need those just to make the engine work.

Then, once things start breaking:

-rear differential
-possibly axle
-suspension components (especially up front due to the heavier engine)

All said and done, the bill won't be small by any means and it will take a lot of time and patience.....but good luck

ya I don't figure the bill to be small, but for the price I'm getting the v6 it'll more then offset the potential engine, tranny, rear end, etc. Looking at what a total of 10k (4k for car) to have a 32v 8.8 rear-end mustang? Not bad in my book. But we'll see, I'm still looking for a good v6-v8 write-up. If anybody has one on hand send it my way please.

EDIT: I didn't see a cost for motor mounts in that writeup, does that mean the engine does drop in?

My car (was a 99 3.8L) was swapped to a 99 4.6L. Engine was $1300, tranny was $700, install was $1500, and many many misc parts totaled (guess) around another $500-600. Of course, you'll need all frontend accessories, new power brake booster, a new connector on the rack and pinion, new A/C lines, accel cable, brake pedal, CRM, brake line connectors are different as well, and the list goes on. I *think* I can find my old list that'd give you an idea. If you're SURE you want to do this, I'd suggest having the complete v8 car next to ya, as it'll save tons of time. I kept my stock radiator and v6 rear end.. no problems with either. Didn't need any motor mounts..

Ya know, I was thinking of getting a used V6 for cheap and doing the V8 swap. After reading this. Im second guessing.

Looks like I'll look for a cheap GT(if I can find one for cheap).

What would it take to swap a 2v GT engine to a 4V Cobra engine?

My cousin started off wanting to do the swap - he had the motor but after all expenses it was cheaper getting a used GT. But goodluck if you do accomplish the swap youll pay less in insurance then a GT owner would.

hey diOde, can i get that list? I have a 99 v6 auto. and im converting it to a 4.6 5 speed and i got 98% of the parts to do so...send me a PM pr somthing so we can have a chat about this before i got out and start gutting my car.
