If you were doing a v6 to v8 upgrade, what all (besides motor and tranny)would you change? What brands would you go with and why?

like: rear-end, suspesion, etc.

Sell your 6 and buy a v8. Your resale value when you sell it will be more and you don't have to buy wheels, tires, rear end, tranny, engine and all the goodies. That is unless your making some kind of drag car and it's not your daily driver....slap in a 5.0 motor.

This car is a 2001 v6 that's free, in very good shape and I'm not installing just a 260hp v8. I'll be installing a motor over 500hp before blower or NOS if I decided to go that route. So even getting a V8 I would have to make serious upgrades, so might as well do it on a car that's free and I can do it the way I want.

I have some ideas of what I want and have several shops in mind that I'll be working with, going with the one that gives me the best deals. I'd just like some others input to see if there might be something I'm missing or something I haven't thought of.

Sorry, I thought you were one of the many people who have bought a 6 and now regret it, so they think it is worth the time and money to just change every part of their car in order to get a GT.

I'd only do that if I was bored and had a lot of spare time on my hands. That might be fun as well. In this case I'll either do some of, or attempt to do most of the work myself unless I can find a shop to do it for a reasonable price. I'll have the motor built by either a local shop or I have some good quotes from some builders around the US. I'll also be going with a 6 speed tranny or......automatic if someone can talk me into it - but I doubt it. I just like the shifting and this is a fun car not a car built for strict competition.

The main thing I need to do, is to get the car (suspension, rear axel, etc.) up to spec to handle the hp I'm expecting. I doubt anything stock will be left on the car other than the frame and body, not even the original paint will remain. Even the frame will be modified with sub-frame connectors. So anyone that has done this, or knows anyone that has done this or even someone that has ideas of what they would do or replace, I'd love tyo hear about it. Here is your chance to dream....just don;t dream to big. I do want to keep a budget.

What are your goals? A drag car, a street monster, a track star? Different answers depending on what you want.

now if I was going to build a monster street/strip machine, I'd build a 5.4 DOHC engine for it

I guess what I'd like is something that will handle decent at the track as well as out on the road. Lets face it, the car will be driven more around town than on a road course or down a 1/4 mile, so I need some decent handling as well.

What do you think about the trans with the amount of hp? If I'm running 4.10's or 4.30's with 315's on the rear. Do you think there is still too much of an issue or possibility of just spinning the tires? or will that depend on the setup, the brand of tires, etc.?

If you are going for more of a street car, I'd go with a 6 speed. 31 or 33 spline axles. Eaton posi. 4.10 gears. A nice setup from Griggs racing (the GR-40 kit if you can swing it). 315s out back with 275s upfront. You should have plenty of bite at that point, and very nice handling.

Thanks, just checked on the G40, A little pricie, but I'll look into it some more.
Would you go with a tremec 6 speed transmission or something else?

now we need stopping power

So, what break setup would you go with?

I would go with the Tremec T-56. As for brakes, I've always like Brembos. Rim size and budget will help decide what you do size wise.
