OK i broke me V8 T5.. as some of u know i got a T5 from a 4 cyl for 150$.
i went to ford to get a 4 cyl T5 pilot bearing..

the one on the left is the V8 pilot bearing (comes with the bearing retainer) and on the right is the pilot bearing that ford gave me for the 4 cyl tranny... the pilot bearing fro the 4cyl doesn't fit in the bearing retainer of the V8 one. (its too small)... so the only 2 possibilities i see is that the 4cyl tranny has a longer input shaft and that the pilot bearing goes in deeper, or i have to make a bearing retainer for it...

any help would be great

Go get this part. It is the correct pilot bearing to put a 4cly t5 behing a v8.
This part # is an Autozone part # and was originally used on a mazda/ ford ranger truck from the late 70's. It costs about 154 bucks.

part# 14672

sorry, I meant $15. Don't waste your time on the lathe. Just order the right part. You can order parts in Canada from Autozone by calling 800-288-6966.

I run a 4 cylinder t-5 in my 93 and the bearing I used only cost $3.99 It is a sealed bearing sort of like a wheel bearing, it fits the trans input shaft perfectly and fits the crank shaft even better. Its been plenty durable with no trouble what soever, I will dig up the part number to night while I am in the shop and post it latter.

Here is the Federal Mogul pn: BCA 202-SS

The search part of this forum is very effective. I found this part # in about 1 minute.

I just helped my buddy, sweet88, put a 4 cyl tranny in a v8 car tonight. The bearing fits and everything went right in.

first thing you need to do is take that thing back. i did the exact same swap your wanting to do a 4cyl t5 onto a v8. if anyone tells you it can't be done or it's not safe bulldonkey. remember the 89 gt t5 was rated at only 265lbs and your std 4cy is 240lbs, it's a diff of only 25lbs. mines been holding up for the past 2 yrs and still going strong. if you got 3.73, you'll really love the tranny gears combined with it.
here's a reference link for the t5 info:
http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2000/09/t5swap/index2.shtml

so this is probably what your looking for
this is how my pilot bearing looked like (btw bushing or bearing, tomatoes / tomato'es- it's all one in the same because the bushing you bought is actually inside your bearing)

here is a pic to verify it's all one in the same, i pulled out my bushing before pulling out the bearing... see pic
View attachment 406099

as you can see from my pic.. the actual bushing was all chewed up. so i ended up having to pull the whole bearing out.
View attachment 406102

easiest and quickest way to pull it out was to carefully drill it and tap it out, carefull not to drill into the crank (learned the hardway)
View attachment 406104

go to autozone and pickup the "clutch pilot bearing" autozone part #14672. if you don't have an autozone cross reference it at the napa site or schucks for their equivalent. as you can see it is a bearing.
View attachment 406106

don't use another v8 bearing because the input shaft for a v8 is 16mm and the 4cy input shaft is only 14mm. this means there's 2mm for something to go wrong... be it vibrations or whatever. some may say you can get away with it. but 2mm is still alot when it comes to accuraccy. the part number is the exact size to fit into the v8 crank and slide over the 4cyl input shaft. there is not even a millimeter or play. it's a perfect fit. trial and error and several runs to the store was the only way i found out.... after getting everyone elses wrong info.

when reinstalling the bearing first pack the crank hole with tons of grease again. lube it up real good and also lube up the bearing good. then to prevent damaging the bearing grab a block of wood and gently use it to tap the bearing in flat and level. if you don't you risk binding up or tweeking the dang thing, and off to the store you go for another bearing.

here's mine installed... and YES i know my engine's dirty but it still runs 180+ no rebuild

thanx..it easier to take out the pilot bearing with grease and a shaft as the same size as the input shaft...fill it with grease , tap it, fill some more, tap it..keep on going till it comes out nice and clean....as u see in my pic i started to do it with grease, but ddint realize i had to keep on adding grease ,so i tried to pry at it with a puller and look what happened

valve cover leak. Note the seal is dry, yet the entire back of the block is wet, including clear up above the seal.

Never mind I see the part number surfaced, And be confident, I broke 2 v-8 t-5s before installing one from a 4 banger, its still there and takes a pounding on a set MT ET strees atleast Twice a month at my local track, Yeah I know all good things must come to a end. But it sure is fun sorta feels like 4.56 gears and man does that thing got one bad ass first gear.

my buddy unknowingly ran a 4 banger t5 behind a ford alum head crate motor for well over 5 years before it dumped on him. + I believe with the 4 banger trans, you get a better first, maybe 3.35 first or better.
