vacuum and c4 problem found

Finally got underneath the trans to look at the modulator. Sure enough... there's a peice of rubber hose that connects the modulator to the hardline. The hose had come off. Plugged it back in, made sure it was hooked up to the hardline... played around with the carb air/fuel mix, idle speed.

Took it for a test and it shifts again! Not to mention starts easier (like it used to) and idles better now. Thanks SuperDave, Pabear and others for your help and advice

That, and for not thinking to check that first.

A good rule of thumb is to go with the cheapest methods first and work your way to the most expensive.
