vacuum canister question

So I had to take of my passenger side fender. After I took it of i found a ball looking think attached to the body with a line attached to it. It's hard to explain but I looked in some mags and it is apparently a vacuum canister. My question is since the fender is off and it is now easy to ge tto is this something I should replace or to the rarely go bad thanks

They are usually all plastic on the Mustang, so, they don't usually go bad, however, you might consider a larger one or adding one with your new motor combo since it may be lower on the vacuum it produces compared to a stock motor. Just my opinion...

The only thing the vacuum reservoir does is supply vacuum to the cabin controls (VENT, FLOOR, etc) when at WOT. Check it with a vacuum pump to make sure it does not leak. If not, don't worry about it. I see no reason to go to a larger one.

Check the line that goes to it. You will see it is from the 3-way check valve that is sourced, then goes to the cabin through the foam near the evaporator.

bringin it back from the dead

I am blaming this canister or vacuum line for my a/c defaulting to defrost. Would i be correct in this assumption?

How should we know? Did you check it? Assumptions are rarely correct, and when they are, it's just dumb blind luck.

There are a number of places that could have a vacuum leak and cause a constant-defroster setting. So, why just assume it's the canister?

There is a very long vacuum line that runs from the plastic vacuum tree by the power brake booster and across the firewall. It is not uncommon for this line to develop a crack (not even necessarily a clean break) that is enough of a vacuum leak to cause the same symptom.
