Value of my car?

Hey guys and gals,

I have been considering selling my car for the last few months. Ive owned the car since 97 and what once was a daily driver has turned in to a sunny day weekend cruzer but now is just a driven a few hundred miles a year. So I have been mulling it over and figured it would be an awesome car for somebody if not just for a weekend cruzer, either way it would still get more miles than I have put on it in the last decade.
Heres the list of mods
94 Custom painted black w/ blue pearl Mustang GT ---70,000 miles
351w storked to 393 w/ Scat crank, forged pistons (9.8ish to 1) AFR 185 heads, trick flow intake, 351 short tube headers, full exhaust (2.5 to 3") and 150 shot of NOS
Tremec TKO 5 speed w/ new zoom clutch, drive line and 3.23 gears
18" staggered Enkies and new tires 295 rears and 245 fronts eibach springs and after market upper and lower control arms
New 13" cobra brakes on front and newer rotors and pads on rear
Interior has new leather seats covers with black suede inserts and blue stiching and autometer gauges
Its basically loaded minus the AC which is in the corner on my garage...lol
I know KBB offeres pricing values for cars but this really isnt a standard car so I figured that you guys might have an idea what something like this is valued at.

Getting good money for performance cars is tough these days. It looks to be a great well balanced car in good condition, but people don't have the money to spend on that stuff these days. If you aren't in a rush to sell it, I would just market it at a high price, and wait for the right buyer to come along. It's worth exactly what someone is willing to pay these days. It's the people who need the cash now that really have to let nice cars go cheap. I think if you asked $16K, you would eventually get close to that if you were willing to wait up to 2 years. If you need to get rid of it soon, it's going to end up going for $6K to $8K. Maybe not even that much.

Thanks....I really dont need to sell it, its just taking up room in my garage that Im sure the wife would love to use for her car, especially being winter is coming and all.....lol
And your right I would prefer a enthusiast purchase the car because there is a ton of cool parts and money in the car and its something that the average driver wouldnt appreciate.

I'm in the same boat as you. My '95 has about $20k in mods, immaculate and rarely driven anymore. I've thought of letting it go too but I'll never get anywhere near what I've got into it. If it did go, then I'd miss it on those sunny days or car shows. At least it's paid for, I switched to Hagerty Insurance ($250 per year for $15k agreed value), I have a 3 bay garage so wifeys car is inside and someday it will be a classic.

Just remember all those times your dad said "I used to own a...." and you wish he still had it because it's now worth $$.

If you can afford to keep it at minimal cost, then I'd keep it.

BTW- your ride looks very clean.

your car is worth 8-10k depending on how well that swap was done. No more than that.

The car would probably be easier to sell without those wheels. While you may prefer them others may look at the vehicle and see it as something they immediately would need to spend money on to remove.

One thing that makes this hard is that no one would be able to get a loan for the full amount of 8-10 most likely due to the book value.

You might get the most for it on ebay and might try selling it with some "borrowed" wheels for the picture. Bullits, 94-97 cobras, etc

I'd keep it, and maybe buy a nice car cover and leave her in the driveway or build a carport and make the wife happy. That is if you dont need to sell it.

You guys actually think the car would like better with a set of stock wheels or a set of re-pops? Huh? I thought the wheels looked good on there, ...guess to each there own. Personally I really hate having a car that has the same wheels that everybody else has....soooo boring and unorginal.

I think you should have the wheels you want while you own it, but for sale purposes, some classic mustang wheels would help it sell more easily believe it or not.

That car would look pretty slick on a number of the mass produced offset wheels like 18x10 and 18x9 bullits, or any of the other rims. Of course I doubt you want to buy wheels to sell a car you are going to take a major loss on, so if you actually want to sell the car, you might sell the wheels or do a trade and cash to some other mustang dude that likes the wheels.

What we are just saying is that those wheels narrow your potential market to those who like your wheels or have the money to buy the car and immediately change the wheels.

That makes no sense at all...heres why, every wheel style has people that both like and dislike them, so it wouldnt matter what I wheels choose to have on the car somebody will always dislike them, much like hoods or spoilers some people love the look some want stock. Basically what Im saying is you will be chasing your tail trying to make everybody happy and apparentally you are one that doesnt like the look and I can except that. So back to the orginal thread....

Or if you could find a set of stockers for a cheap price. You could just throw in the deal so they have an option when they buy it from you. I have a set of 95 cobra rims just laying around. They arent perfect but I would let them go for cheap. They arent as good of quility as your car is though (beautiful car by the way).

Look, you asked for feedback on what your car is worth, and I happen to agree with the general opinion here that your car will obtain maximum earning potential with a set of Ford wheels, be it OEM, Cobra's, FR500's, Bullitt's, etc..

Being that your car is 17 years old and modded it will be tough to sell for more than $6-7K and that's pushing it especially considering for a couple grand more one could purchase a more desireable model such as a SN-95 Cobra or early new-edge Cobra. Your best chance is finding another Mustang enthusiast that happens to think your car is perfect for them and has every mod they would be interested in doing. Even then I doubt you'll get an offer over 10K.

As far as the wheels are concerned, the reason others and myself mentioned it is that it may be easier to find this specific buyer if you install a set of wheels that appeal to a larger population.

If you don't want feedback, don't ask for it... this is the internet you really need to have thicker skin

@N8DOGG98 --Nope not mad....might be questioning my judgement to ask in an open forum, but not mad.

I dont recall asking anything about if you or anybody liked my wheels, I just wanted to get an opinion on the cars value, that was it!
I have said before that you cant make everybody happy with your modification choices and in no way will changing my wheels increase the value of my car. It might make the car more generic which might appeal to a few more buyers but I will never get the return on investment for what I put into a new set. So really its not a smart decision to "waste" money on wheels....I know that and I assume so do you.

I'd have to agree on the wheels. It's such a matter of personal taste, it's not worth buying new wheels just to try and sell the car. Those particular wheels are a little too flashy more my taste, but it wouldn't keep me from buying the car.

Any reason you don't want to keep it? You married? Kids?

I only ask because I felt the same way you do a couple years ago and now my 2 year old son asks me on a daily basis if he can go for a ride in my car. It's really fun and rewarding to be able to share my hobby with my kid and I have another 6 month old son that will likely be into it as well.

You probably know this already, but it will be difficult to get out of it what you put into it. Have you considered getting involved in a local car club, going on cruises, car shows, auto-x, the drag strip, etc... doing things like this may re-kindle the love you once had for your car

Get off the guys balls about the wheels, who gives a ****? I don't like them either, but I highly doubt that spending money on other wheels will prove beneficial in the end. Maybe he will get a few more bucks with a set of run of the mill American Muscle wheels like everyone else, but he's also gotta shell out money to get them. It's easier to just take a little hit on the selling price rather than hassle with all that. At best it would be a wash.

God, the last thing we need is another Mustang on Bullits/Cobras/FR500s. Done. To. Death.

I swear Mustang modding is paint by numbers, more than any other car club. Just a bunch of guys who go to American Muscle and order the full catalog of identical ****.

It makes plenty of sense. Ill stop sugar coating it.

Your wheels are obtrusive, you are extremely narrowing an already small market that could afford and would want your car.

most people would not buy your car because they would immediately want the wheels traded out and then they might not be able to sell your wheels because they can only go on certain cars and would need "the right buyer."

Right now, they are subtracting from the value of your car. Alone, they may have a value and I would try to sell them on a forum or do a trade plus cash to some kid who happens to like them.

Hell, I would sell your wheels as a set to some kid with a V6 and a little spending money and throw on some used prostars. Those are at least more fitting to your car's performance potential and will give someone the easy option of trading wheels with someone else if they dont want.

One of the problems with "different" aftermarket wheels is most of the time you can't tell if they cost the owner $3,000 or $300. Weird wheels tend to just come off as cheap and make the car look like a high school kid owns it.

To the OP, I could care less what wheels you have on your car, but the fact is, Ford wheels look good and appeal to almost anyone interested in one of these cars.

The people on this forum aren't trying to be rude to you, but rather just bring you up to speed on what might be more appealing to most people who would be a potential buyer of your car.
