Valve hitting piston?

Pulling apart this engine I pulled from my 97. Previous owner did PI swap with comp XE262AH. Had a tick noise so I parked it and decided to swap in another NPI short block and PI top end. I thought it looked like the piston hitting a valve on the lower right side of each piston. Maybe timing skipped a tooth. What do you think caused this? Thanks

Comp 262 need to be retarded a tad to not hit a NPI short block. Installing them without degreeing is not recommended as they are just on the cusp of hitting size wise.

Yeah they were installed when I bought the car, so I'm not sure if they were degreed or not.

I'd say you lucked out!

Inspect whatever pieces/parts that would normally bend with piston interference. It would be the pushrods on my engine.
