Engine Valvetrain Calibration

Hi all,
Have any of you used this valve calibration method before? According to this manual this is for a 5.0 HO, can this be used on a TFS stage 1 cam?

Yeah, after 10 minutes I was confused and started over, another 10 minutes and I needed to throw something, but I didn't, I then verified TDC in the firing order adjusted the valves and remains to be tested. Pedestal rocker by the way.
Oh I see, I was just curious to know if anyone have done that sequence and the results, and if it would work on a cam like mine TFS stage 1. I have 1.6 adjustable rockers on 7/16 studs.

Just a heads up, but my print manual for my 79 Capri has an incorrect sequence for adjusting the valves on a 302. Easiest is to just go through the firing order and adjust.
Oh, that’s the way I calibrated mine but some argue that hat’s not the right way to do it. The way I did it was after I found number 1 cylinder at TDC I calibrated In/ex then I brought the next cylinder in order (No. 3) to TDC and repeated the same with the rest of the cylinders. Maybe I will try that sequence next time I’m at it

My opinion (read disclaimer) is the important thing is the cylinder you're working on is at TDC on the compression stroke.
DISCLAIMER: advice/opinion is not based on any real automotive training.

The best way " in my opinion" is to do one cylinder at a time.. Takes longer but you know its done correctly
Adjust the intake as " the exhaust starts to open"
Adjust the Exhaust " as the intake starts to close" ......

I did my valves that way but didn’t apply your last two paragraphs. I simply followed the firing order bringing each cylinder to TDC and adjust both valves. Next time I will follow your suggestions.

SO what you are saying is that at TDC on the compression stroke for whatever cylinder you are working on, you can adjust both the exhaust and intake valves?

That’s the way many of us do it. Since hydraulic lifters calibration is so wide it may not have that much of impact. Solid lifters could be a different animal because there is not forgiven.
In my post I posted one way some books suggest, and hopping people chip in with the most accurate way to do it.

I tried that method 5-6yrs back,IDK what I did wrong but it did not work for me. Twice:D The best way IMO is EOIC in the ciring order.
Oh, in theory it work perfectly fine. Having the lifters completely bled, getting zero lash on all the lifters and rotating the crank 90 deg after zero lash eight times or more and then apply the desired pre-load locking all the poly locks, sounds easy and error proof. Definetely I’ll try it.
