When replacing the vehicle speed sensor, does the clip that holds it seat all the way to the transmission? It looks as though the shaft on the sensor has a raised edge that keeps it held off the transmission approx. 1/8", is this correct? or do I need to try and force it in a little farther?

I had the same issue with my replacement VSS. The original sat down flush on the transmission, does yours? I took the old clip off of my original vss, and installed in on my new one. If you don't have that option carefully pry your new clip off and either pound that lip out of it (like in a vice, becareful not to bend the angle out of the rest of the clip) or cut that very end tab off with a hack saw or grind it down. I had to get mine to sit flat to avoid leaks.

Hope that helps
