I have a 93 LX and the windows wont roll up or down.
i pulled the motors and they both turn, but they are not pushing the windows. I can pull the windows up and down manually and they move freely. do I need new motors or is there an adjustment I can make to fix this??

I had one like that too. I opened it up and the race that holds the gear assembly was cracked. WIth no load, the output shaft gear moved. But with the window gear engaging the regulator, the load would split the race apart rather than moving the window.

It takes 2 mins to open the motor up once you have it on the bench.

Good luck.

just replace the motor they are cheap. the problem is usually the plastic gear that attaches to the motor that strips out and is the real problem. Call 5.0Resto they will get you what you need.

Where do you get the motors for cheap? I thought I recalled the motors going for 75 bucks or so.............. It'd be great to have a source that's cheaper.

somehow I think rebuilding them will be cheaper than buying new. used ones go for cheap, but how long until they crap out too? gonna see if I can just find new bushings/gears

If you buy em new at a parts store (CSK or whatever) you get a lifetime warranty, though. I think it's worth the investment seeing as how they kinda like to die.

150 bucks is a lot to me - we have two windows. And yes, I'm not nearly as well-off as many on this site. I like to rebuild things when I can, but I have not had luck finding correct rebuild parts for the motors. I've had them apart and they are fairly elementary.

I tend to suck at navigating the resto sites (especially one mentioned on this thread). If anyone has a part # for a rebuild kit, please post it up - it will help a lot of us out. :nice:
