Vert Lightbar install tips?

Hi All,

I will be installing my CDC light bar soon and wanted to know if anyone else has done it and what tips they might have?

If you use any type of interior molding cleaner (like ArmorAll) be sure NOT to use it for some time before you do your install else the masking tape won't stick.

When it's time to cut into your inside panels, measure, measure, measure and when you are done measuring.... measure again so you know you got it right. Once you cut those panels you cannot undo that. I was a little off but was able to hide it fairly well.

Since you said "Lightbar" and not "Styling Bar", I assume you got one with a brake light... Are you going to install the cutoff relay so that the light does not light up when the top is up?

Yes I am installing the light switch also. Did you install the relay on yours?

The weather has been so crappy here in the NW the last few months I haven't cleaned the inside with any cleaner for a few while, good tip though!

Hi,

So the install was kind of a pain but not too bad in the end and looks cool

I am having a problem with the switch I am not sure what to do with the Yellow wire on the switch kit. The Red one is connected to the Red motor wire and goes +12V when top is going up, but the instructions just say to connect the Yellow wire to the other motor wire but doesn't say which one?
I have tried several but not luck so far I am only able to get the brake light on when top is in both positions.

I can help you out with this. I don't have my instructions anymore, can you scan yours and send it to me? I'll have to pull my back seat out and look. I'm going to wash and detail the car later today and when I do I'll pull the seat and see what I can find out for you.

If I remember correctly you have to search through a nest of wires for a striped wire. Again, just hold tight and let me see before you try hooking it up again.

Years ago I posted a few threads on this. I doubt stangnet still has them saved though. I installed without cutting any holes in the trim (like the instructions say you need to do).

Be careful with the bar, the vinyl can get damaged easily.

Instead of cutting the holes, install the bar with the trim panels loosely in place. You can then reach in the side and tighten the bolts without having to cut those ugly ass holes in your trim. Its awkward but looks a lot better than those plug things they give you.

Lube your seat belt roller thingies... One of mine is squeaking. I'll have to remove the F-ing bar to get to it!!!

It's the trim at the TOP of the panel that you have to cut that we are talking about. Not the door side panel rivet holes.

Hi,

I wish I had thought of that before I cut the stupid holes in the vinyl to access the bolts!

Of course when you drill it with the hole saw they tell you to use the plugs are slighlty to small and don't grip the vinyl so I ended up using a drop of silicon under it to keep them from falling out. I will post some pics when i have the seats put back in.

Did you guys modify your seatbelt hoops or did you order the steada low profile ones?

I removed my loops. Got a link to the low profile ones? It can be a pain having the seat belt way back there.

My seatbelt loops aren't causing me any problems...

I bought my CDC lightbar from Steeda. I also got my switch from Steeda. I don't remember if I actually installed those connector clips or not but just looking at my switch, it's pretty easy to see the hook up with or without the connectors. I think this picture I just took of my switch will explain what you need to know...

I guess I was having a blond moment when i was trying to install it the first time the other day since I was trying to splice the wires into the relay wires wrong side of the motor, doh!

As for the seat belt holders there here is the info:
NOTE: 1999 & UP Mustang Bulletin, Due to the larger size of the seat belt shoulder loop on the 1999 Mustang, modifications to this loop is necessary or the purchase of new loop is recommended Seat Belt retainer bracket

•Left - F4ZZ 76610C07 A
•Right - F4ZZ 76610CO6 A

You can also modify the old ones if you want.

Modifications Instructions:
1. Lift headrest and headrest support bars trim all the way up.
2. Insert wood stick (or slim jim) down the front side of the headrest bar. Push stick down as far as possible . When the stick is beneath the headrest trim piece, and push headrest all of the way down.
3. Remove headrest
4. Bend seat belt shoulder strap loop down so that the leg that attaches under headrest is flat
5. Remove seatbelt loop and torx bit.
6. With template shown below, center punch for new holes and mark for cut off.
7. Drill 1/8" Pilot holes
8. Drill 13/32" hole in plastic only (on topside only)
9. Drill 19/64" hole through remaining material
10. Cut off end on new cut off line mark
11. Clean off any burs and re-install
