I was told to make the convertible top work manualkly and easily you must dissconnect the hydraulics. Also I was wondering if anyone has removed their hydraulics and how much weight could be saved?

Nope, don't need to remove anything...

I have had a manual top for quite a while...

Actually, it's not that bad...been meaning to take the top motor out and clean it...

Remat, thanks so much. that sounds a lot less elaborate than removing the hydraulic lines, etc. thanks!

Got the day off today, I'm going to track this problem down if I have to rewire the whole d*** circuit! I'll let you know what I find.
Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure I found that stupid CB, but with a meter on it, it doesn't lose 12V when you press the top switch....WTF?!
Again, tired of staring at other 'stangs cruising with their tops down, I'm gonna figure it out. If nothing else, I can't put my surfboard in the car with the top up....

Ok, this is odd,... If you have the radio turned all the way down, when the top switch is pressed the is a small pop from the speakers.... hmmm. Is this a floating ground? Is it normal, and no one notices if the radio has any volume on it? BTW, this car is conpletely rewired and running Alpine stuff, so it's not any fatcory interference.
Still trying to trace that stupid black/yellow wire....

I've isolated the problem, it's the fusible link. I found the CB, and it is fine. I tested it, noticed that it's plugs didn't have 12V, so I jumped it straight to the battery (with a fuse) and the top works. I even jumped both relays straight to the battery for good measure, tops works. Now I need to find that fusible link for the top. Everything is rather vague about it's location.
Anybody happen to know where that one is?

glad to hear you are getting it tracked down. nice work!

as far as the location of the link, it should be off the starter solenoid (there is a bundle of them). as for which one, i dont have an answer for ya. just have to probe them. good luck.

I figured it out everyone, go to this thread. I started a new one so that others suffering with tops that won't drop might find it easier.

Any luck?
I was going to replace the switch (since my power mirror switch just recently went out) but it sounds like that is not going to be the problem...

thanks!
