very low oil pressure

hi everyone im new to the stang world,just bulit my 1st 302 for my 91 gt ,the problem im having tonight is,on start up i wasnt getting any oil pressure...when i used my priming tool i get about 10 lbs, but it doesnt go up and the lifters dont sound like they are getting any oil,....i have a new melling pump,and a external guage hooked up cuz the factory guage wasnt reading anything! when i put the oilstump in i just bolted to the 2 factory studs,but i dont remember a seal on the sump or this release valve everyone talks about ,help pls thanks

There should be a gasket between the oil pump body and the block. If it's missing, that's the reason for your low oil pressure.

should be a gasket between the pump and block, now you better look at your bearings too

Some of the 5.0 engines didn't get a gasket. I KNOW mine doesn't have one and my pressure is up there.

This is from the 1992 Mustang Ford factory service manual... You'll please note that there is no gasket between the pump and block. When I took my pump off there was no gasket and I didn't put one in when I put the new pump on.

when i took my motor apart i dont remember if it had one or not but thanks every one for ur input my pony will b up and running soon.
