I have a 03 GT with 92,000 miles. Car has been having what we thought was an intermittent issue. A week ago, it threw a code. We replaced the sensor that it was coding for and reset the computer (i.e. disconnected the battery for 20 minutes). The check engine light never came on again, but the sensor problem did. We knew the bulb wasn't blown, because when you put the car in accessory position, the light comes on. So, for the heck of it, we took it to Autozone to see if they could pull a code. We were told that they couldn't pull a code if the check engine light had not come on. We asked them to check it anyways. They did, and sure enough, there was the same code stored in the computer. So, my questions are:

1. Did we properly clear the code??

2. Does this sound like a potential computer failure?

To paraphrase, if the car is throwing a code, the check engine light is not coming on, the bulb is good -- is the ECM bad?

The car is out of warranty, so I would prefer not to have to take it and pay for them to determine what I think we already have.
