so first off i haven't been around for a while and i come back and see that oink finally got his all done and dyno'd with insane #s and i take it RC is no longer lost the love. i didn't realize i wasn't around for that long. but back to the point at hand....

yeah so i'm really pissed off. when i got this car, the guy told me he had it dyno'd at 460 RWHP and 425 RWTQ. yeah i got it dyno'd finally and it put out 390 RWHP and 360 RWTQ. granted it was humid but not humid enough to loose 70 hp. so i'm pretty pissed off that the guy lied to me. and i'm pretty pissed off that its not over 400. the air/fuel was right around 10, which is fine with me b/c of the 120k miles on the stock block.

i guess now its saving up for the 331 short block again.... but i tell u what am i pissed off.

O.k it's not what you were told but 390 RWHP and 360 RWTQ is nothing to be mad at. Hell I would be happy with just 300rwhp.

Was it the same kind of dyno? The difference between a dynojet and mustang dyno can easily account for that. Were his numbers corrected? Were yours? There's lots of reasons other than dishonesty to explain the difference.

Your numbers are almost dead-on 85% of what he told you. Are you positive he wasn't quoting estimated brake horsepower numbers instead?

Yeah, that does sound like it could have been what the engine was making at the flywheel, not the wheels.

How much boost are you running? Maybe your belt is slipping now, and the previous owner did a dyno run when it was 50 degrees out. Or someting like that, you know.

I would't be too mad, but I definitely understand how the miscommunication could piss you off. Like asked before was that a mustang dyno or dyno jet or what?

Yeah, I was going to say, how much boost are you running. If it's at 6psi or something, then it makes complete sense.

Also, 10:1 a/f ratio is really rich, even for a boosted car. Ask around, but I think it should be around 11.5-12.0:1.

You didn't mention boost. I agree it should make 425+ with your mods and 10-11psi. Weather also plays a huge role. Also did you have it tuned or just do one run and that's it.

i'd be pissed too if i bought a car thinking it put down 460 hp and then find out it only puts down 390.

on the other hand, i'd be really happy to cave a car that puts down 390. i'm sure i'm not even close to 300 yet.

yea, anything in the 10's on your a/f is rich.. that would play a large role in loosing power. Even at 11.2-11.5 your still safe. How was the timing? good gas i suppose? Was the 460 claimed run done on race gas with more timing advance?

No doubt your combo listed should make 450+ to the wheels on 12-14psi 10psi i would guess 425

Yes, I agree. Rich, Rich, Rich! Change your air/fuel and you should see some better numbers. 390 is nothing to be ashamed of though. You still have a car that will run the high 11's low 12's.

I would make sure you are dynoing the car on the same kind of dyno. Maybe you dynoed it on a Mustang Dyno and he dynoed it on a Dynojet. So many variables.

As everyone said Dyno differences, possible race gas and timing advance, and your way to rich. If you can get a hold of the guy again, try and get the specifics from him. 460 sounds a bit high but still reasonable, but again theres so many variables. When he told you this WHY DIDN'T YOU ASK FOR A DYNO SHEET???!!! Just try and get a hold of the guy, and change that A/F ratio and you should be over 400rwhp easily.

Your car has to make more than mine. You have H/C/I over me and more if you have LT's. I made the #'s in my sig with stock E7's, GT cam, and Cobra intake w/o the cooler. I'm am expecting at least another 25-30 with the tune on the methanol kit on 12 psi. You need to look at the psi you are putting out. My car made 342/378 on a 5 psi tune.

if you factor in a loss of 15% to the wheels and subtract that from 460 you get 391...so he could have been stating flywheel numbers, and if thats the case your DEAD on......

you sure the s/c belt was not slipping like a mo-fo?

it might need some TLC and re-tightening, or a new belt.

wear and tear items tend to be the first guess for problems.

okay.
1. i miss quoted the sheet. the air/fuel is right at 11.5. i was thinking off the top of my head and didn't think to double check.

2. i'm running about 8 lbs. of boost. i dont' really want to up it at this point. i just don't want to put too much boost through the stock bottom end with the miles that it has. just hit 122k the other day.

3. its in the same trim that it was always in. never had race gas, never changed the timing. i don't think the guy even owned a timing light.

4. didn't have it tuned when it was there. it was at a car show and they weren't tuning.

5. i didn't want them to tune it anyway. it was originally tuned by LaRocca in Jersey, and i know hes good and knows what he's doing, where as these guys.....

6. I did ask the guy for a dyno sheet from the 460 claim, but he couldn't find it. i was surprised he found half the stuff i did get, paperwise, not to organized.

7. true, i am glad to have 390 but still it pisses me off that its 70 under his claim.

8. i did make sure with the guy that he was saying rear wheel horsepower when he told me 460, but who knows...

i think thats everything.....
