YES! Apparently they use the same balancer as the fox's. They're very popular for failing.

I haven't had this problem yet, but I guess you just reach in there and see if you can move the outer part by hand. A good one should feel solid.

Also, if you have a timing light, check to see if the timing is still where it should be, if its off by a substancial amount, say lower than 8* or higher than 16* (with the spout unpluged of course), you can bet that the balancer has shifted a bit. Check to see if it deviates a bit when looking at it with the timing light.

I have the exact same problem and I cannot figure out what it is either. Mine is in the same rpm range and does it in neutral and with the clutch in or out it does not matter. Mine can also be felt through the steering wheel. Anybody got any ideas?

Just rub your hand along the front and back of the balancer and feel for rubber sticking out. Mine had rotated about 90* when I changed it.

Yep, the balancer is two rings held together with an elastomer. The biggest tells are the timing reading being off, like 1TMF said, rubber coming out (TGGT) and wobbling. WHen the elastomer takes a dump, it lets the outer ring shift (the inner ring is keyed to the crank). They often look like someone hit the front of the balancer with a hammer (longitudinal runout).

A good rule is that if the elastomer is cracking in places, go ahead and replace.

For the guys with the off idle vibes, does it occur while moving or stationary? It could also be a resonance issue. Have either of ya run a cylinder balance test? You might be able to get it to test while in that range and if it's an actual misfire, it can be revealed (or discounted).

Good luck.

If you have removed your flywheel, did you mark it and put it in the same place? If you didn't, let me know and I can tell you how to put it back correctly.

I thought that the flywheel would only line up one way with the crank? I have had mine off but I was going on the above statement when I put it back on.

Really? Well I didn't know that. Sometimes they do make things idiot proof....lol.

I took mine off, and noticed the left edge of the weight on the back of the flywheel points to the hole in the crankshaft that doesn't have threads.

You can get this feeling from the engine from the transmission mounts going bad or your transmission bar that goes across has rusted out on the ends causing the complete assy. to vibrate.
