i have a 1988 lx with 5.0 and it has a borg-warner 5spd, my issue is it has a viberation i cannot pinpoint for the life of me! i checked u-joints they are good look new, trans. mounts are good crossmember mounts are a few months old,(so i was told i just got the car a week ago) any time i reach 45-50 mph it viborates like its in the driveline somewhere, even when i am at those speeds and put the car in neutral it continues to do it till i am down below 45mph. i dont know alot about these cars so any input would help!! thanks!

The first, quickest and cheapest check is to have the tires checked for balance and out of round. A rear tire with either of those conditions will cause vibrations similar to a driveline problem.

put the car up on jack stands and run them up to 20 or 30 and see whats happening with the rear tires. I would remove them first then put the car up to 45 if the problem is there its obviously not the tires, if its gone its probably the tires. but under load things can change.

well first off i know my spelling sucks!!! hahahaha!!! but ya i thought the vibration was the u-joints being that when i accelerateits not there till i get to a steady cruise or when i let off to slow down its there well its worse it still vibrates when climbing speeds but it is worse when i steady the speed or let off the go pedal. but i will put it up on stands and see what happens with out the tires on! thanks!

well it seems i got a car that is in need of some help! so i am just gonna start from scratch and and pull the motor trans, and rear! fix the strut towers motor is fine it is a new rebuild 4000 miles ago but the trans. is in need of some tlc and so is the rearend i just bought all newupper and lower control arms and torque box reinforcments new rear shocks and new front struts i did notice the motor mount on the passenger side is beyond shot so i was gonna buy all new motor and trans mounts any suggestions if i should go with solid mounts or poly?

well i will proly go with ploy mounts to see how they are, also like i said in my previous post this car needs work so i ran into another issue, the car is an 88 and has been converted to mass air flow, it seems to hesitate when cruising around 2000 rpm or less any higher and it clears up and runs fine, throttle response is awsome power is all there first gear is a waist of time second just insain tire spin and third your pressed into the seat so its not lacking timing is set at 15 degrees base the motor was built before i got i know its cammed, i had a few people tell me its the cam that makes it do that but i highly doubt that being i have never had a car that was cammed sounds like it misses wen cruising at 2000 rpm and less i tested the tps and its good, i thought it was the iac being that when i start it when its cold the rpm's drop off and pick back up like its surging but after it warms up it idles fine, any ideas?

Not sure yet but think I know what is plaguing my 5.0 with vibes at higher rpm's. Previous owner did a rear disk changeover, and badly I might add. Axles were wrong and calipers were mounted incorrectly to start, but I just read about hub-centric rotors and realized that the rotors out back are drilled out 4-lug, and seeing as how I installed new axles and the correct caliper mount, the rotor is more than likely the culprit, as the only vibration that really bothers me is not the ones from solid mounts, etc... but the ones when roasting the tires or smoking through 2nd & 3rd at higher r's. Anyone know of fairly decent quality rotors I could use for this? It's been awhile since I messed with it.
