Looking for recommendations on video camera mounts for INSIDE our cars. I'm afraid the head rest mount will be kinda shaky. The suction cup mounts are damn expensive, but a possiblitiy....

Anyone have ideas? Please post them.

i guess having a camera in your car is cool

You make it sound like I'm a ricer..... :nonono:

I run the 100mphClub.com site... we are working on a DVD. We auto-x and drag race.... but yeah I would consider an in car movie of the camaro next to me getting his arse blow off the drag strip to be "cool"

Anyone else think it's stupid? Maybe I've been mistaken and I'm wasting my time posting my videos on this site???? I sure pull a ton of bandwidth on my site if no one likes them. :(

Take a look at this setup.

There would be some vibration but I think any set up would. Try this bracket with it only coming off the drivers head rest.

Try a search on google there are alot.

Thanks for the link.... The reason I was asking is for recommendations, from real world users. Most of what I've found on google is the owners selling them... they ALWAYS say there mount is the best. :D

I'd say it would be pretty easy to fab something up yourself using parts off an inexpensive camera tripod and some wood. I always thought it would be cool to mount it to the outside to a roof or trunk rack so you can see down on the hood or something then shield the mic from the wind. It would make for awsome action shots.

that little custom setup looks pretty cool- assuming you don't have aftermarket seats w/o headrest like me... that would be sweet to have an interior cam gcomfx! especially to see the autocross vids

I too wondered what a camera mount would be for but i forgot about track and autocross vids.. i thought it was like for security hehe

edit: i didn't notice this thread was ressurected... anyways, it looks doable ernan, go for it!!!

I've got a very small mini-DV camera... I'm working on a mount in the back seat that I can just flip the screen around and see what the camera does. Might as well find a reason to have that funny little remote control it came with. :D

ahh ok that makes a little more sense now...carry on

I've seen two setups that were worth a damn for the interior view. One is the mount from IO Port and mounts to a roll bar/cage. Maximum Motorsports also sells them but they're the same mount from IO.

That red strap is not part of the actual mount; it's just a static line to keep the camera from killing someone in case of an accident.

The other is a home brew setup that I unfortunately don't have a picture of. What you do is remove the back seat headrest and mount the camera to the center hole found underneith. Just thread a bolt up from the trunk (that is the same size and thread pitch as the camera's tripod mount) and place some rubber mat in between the cam and the sheetmetal to control vibration. It's produced surprisingly good results in the setups I've seen/tried. One word of caution though: it is an absolute bitch to get the zoom setup right unless you have a cam with a view screen that swivels around to the front.
