VIN PLATE TROUBLE

i'M RESTORING A 66 COUPE AND WHOEVER PAINTED IT LAST DID A REALLY ****TY JOB. THEY PAINTED ON THE CHROME, ON THE WINDOWS AND ON THE VIN PLATE ON THE DOOR. MY QUESTION IS CAN YOU BUY A NEW VIN PLATE?????? IE NEVER SEEN ONE FOR SALE. WHAT THE HELL DO I DO????? IM AFRAID TO SAND IT AND MAKE IT EVEN WORSE.

Where is the best place to get the information that would have been on the plate on the door? Is there a web site where you can get this information using just the VIN number? Mine was missing when I bought the car.

It depends, if your car is newer than 1966, you can try to get it from Ford or from the link posted above for Martiauto.
