VIN PLATE TROUBLE

i'M RESTORING A 66 COUPE AND WHOEVER PAINTED IT LAST DID A REALLY ****TY JOB. THEY PAINTED ON THE CHROME, ON THE WINDOWS AND ON THE VIN PLATE ON THE DOOR. MY QUESTION IS CAN YOU BUY A NEW VIN PLATE?????? IE NEVER SEEN ONE FOR SALE. WHAT THE HELL DO I DO????? IM AFRAID TO SAND IT AND MAKE IT EVEN WORSE.

It depends, if your car is newer than 1966, you can try to get it from Ford or from the link posted above for Martiauto.

Marti does a great job of it. I asked Ford and it depends where they were built. Mine was San Jose and I just got a letter with basic options.

I have just talked to 3 Ford dealers and all of them say they can’t do it so I will try the other source thank you.

I used 0000 extra fine steel wool on mine, and it removed the paint to where the numbers and letters are now easily read.
