I just purchased a 2000 GT Convertible. When I ran a car fax on the car it indicated that it was a 32 V SOHC engine. I can not locate anthing on the valve
covers or easily apparent in the engine bay to confirm that this is a 32 Valve and not a 16 V.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to where on the vehicle I can confirm or disprove what type of engine it has?

Try this:http://web.tampabay.rr.com/theflock/mustang/doorplate.html
GT's only have 16 valves, except for the new 05's. Unless someone pulled off the Cobra stickers and put GT stickers on it, you will have the 2V [per cylinder]engine.

I think I am going to give a call to Carfax. They list the car as a 32V SOHC.
I have beeb ubable to prove this with any decoder. I agree with you, the 2000 GT
should be a 16 V, but Carfax boast of being correct, so I am going to hold them to the claim.

CarFax sucks - both mine showed the same thing - 32V DOHC.
I'll never waste money on a CarFax again - unless it's been totaled, it's useless. Don't expect CarFax to have any accident reports in it - and don't expect them to stand behind their guarantee - they just loophole out of it.

Carfax is just decoding the VIN wrong. Carfax would have no knowledge, at all, if the car was mod'ed with a new/different engine, or had is fender badges changed, from what it left the factory with.

Carfax also likes to "tease" you into buying a report.

They tell you that they have like 4 reports about the car. The "tease" is that they suggest that these reports could be about accidents or flood damage or a buy-back "lemon" or something equally bad.

You pay your money, and then find those 4 reports were that they car had 4 yearly registration renewals. And Carfax knew that the reports were that all along.

IMHO, their "tease" is really gross misrepresentation.

Maybe CARFAX is counting the 16 valves replaced and the 16 in there now! JUST KIDDING! They reported mine as 32 valves also.

The 32v engines have the spark plug holes in the center of the cam covers. The 16 valve spark plugs are above the cam covers. There is a noticeable difference between the apearance of the cam covers as well. There are obviously two cam gears under the 32 valve cam covers.

i agree. i bought my cobra after checking carfax. no accidents on the report. but i can tell that it has been in a small fender bender due to minor overspray on the fog lights. oh, and i bought my car from carmax, you know, the people who advertise about not selling cars that have been in accidents.

anyways i got the overspray off and i am still pleased with my real DOHC 32V.
