Vinyl top removal

I need to remove the vinyl top on my 68...how do i remove the moldings?

If that's a factory installed top, the mouldings are attached on the backside with nuts. Tough to get to. The roof rail has an aluminum retaining strip embedded in clear silicone caulk, with a few pop rivets. You'll have to gouge out the silicone, and drill out the rivets. Be careful with the strips, they must be re-used and no one makes them.

wow, sounds kind of involved...it is indeed the factory top, as far as I know. So I guess I have to take the headliner loose to get to the bolts?

Why do you have to take it off, does it need to be replaced?

rust is bubling up underneath, I need to contain the rust...

No, but you'll have to crawl into the trunk, ans likely you'll need to remove the rear seat, and quarter trim panels to reach the forward studs.

ok...i'll have to look at it when i get home...does anyone have any pics of a vinyl top removal?

i have rust bubbling too from the front, i'll be looking to see if you get this in pics.
