I recintly added an Auto start to my Stang and was wondering if anybody has the same type of system and if they are experiencing any problems like I am getting.

My problem I am seeing is that when the car when it sits out in the daylight hours the car has no problem starting up on it's own. However, once the sun sets the auto starts goes through all 3 restarts and fails to maintain the running of the car, unless the user inserts key into ignition switch.

The weather where I live is at night its between 70-80 degrees and during the day it's between 75-100 degrees year round. That does not include the humidity factor.

I have video of the problem but the local installer said he wasn't interested. So i would appreciate any assistance.

thanks,

Douglas

The installer said he wasn't interested? I'd drive right back over there and tell him to figure the *****ing problem out before you contact Viper and tell them an "authorized dealer" refuses to provide service for their product.

Ah Dude,

He was interested in trying to fix the problem. But he was not interested in seeing what it does at nighttime, which is when the problem occurs. So your partially correct but, I may have not stated the total story. But trust me after 2 days of that happening I went back talked to the manager and he got me in that day so they can fix the problem. Which is still unresolved.

But has this happened to anyone that has this type of system in there stangs or other auto's?? If so wat was the fix so I might wedge it to him??

Ur installer hooked it up without tach sensing mode. What that means is he wired unit up with preset crank time. DEI call it the "Voltage sensing mode". Preset crank time up to about 2.5sec(in 0.25sec interval. preset i think was 0.5sec). usualy thats plenty to turn over the car, unless your car is bit old or getting really cold. DEI unit is shipped defult in this voltage sensing mode
Back when i was working as DEI installer, i usualy wired up tach(moniters tach signal to "see" if engine started or not. much more reliable), Unit then cranks tarter until it "see" that car has indeed started by monitering RPM. so that i don't have to worry about poeple keep comming back with probrem like yours. Another probrem with Voltage sensing mode is that on some car RPM drops bit when A/C comes on. when RPM dropps, unit sees that voltage dropped=car didn't start, and shuts unit off, and start it again. This is more so with A/C equipped small 4 cylinder cars(Nissan Sentra with 1.6L and 1.8L was notrious for this)

Basically, your installer dicided to cut corners by not tap in to your tach signal(its a ONE wire hook up, hook up Bit writter, and run tach learning sequence after everything is installed. Which takes 10 seconds), and used defult Voltage sense setting.

take it back, and demand that you want tach sensing instead of voltage sensing

trust me on this. I installed DEI remote starter for 5 years(up 20unit /day). his installer needs to wire up tach wire.
Unfortunatlly, he have to take it back, because only way to change defult setting on DEI unit(i'm assuming he got 552) to tach mode is by using this installer only hand held programmer called "BIT writter"(its like Predetor for our car). And he needs to hook up tach wire(i think it was perpule wire), and run tach learning sequence(which you as consumer do not know how)

he can call DEI, their costomoer service number is located on back side of remote, but they'll tell him samething.

Watch the theft light when its trying to start. If its flashing rapidly, the transponder bypass isnt working right.

My bulldog remote start has this problem sometimes.

Nah... Way Newer Ford PATS works that if your PATS isn't bypassed right, won't even crank. its Voltage sensing fu ckin up.

What kind of bypass modual did u use? He mostlikel;y got DEI 555U, and is prolly best bypass for PATS, and Century key(Chrysla), Passlock 3&4(GM), and all other quartz based key coding

mity2,

I will have to print this out and show it to him. Thats if he hasn't already talked to his buddies on a "forum" for viper units gone bad ( kinda catchy). I don;t know what a 552 is?? The unt that is installed in my stang is model 791XV. Maybe that might help or not. But I will send this information out to him and see what he says.

-Douglas

Oh and i'll keep you guys updated if that worked or not.

ah i can't remenber what the model number goes by any more. But unless they changed how it owrk, it should still work the same way. ASk your installer if he used tach sense or voltage sense. and if he used voltage sense, u want tach sense

now DEI used to make this PATS bipass modul I think it was called 555L(something like that it was befor 555U came out), it was so that you don't have to give up your expensive coded key. It "learns" code, and transmistte dupricate code out to the car when you try to start with remote start. It was total crap. Capsel(antenna part) always messing up and stuff. It was also known to change "code" when it gets cold enough. So when you try to remote start teh car in cold morning, it'll send out wrong code, Hense car starter don't work, flashes theft light. Now they could have used that, but I think it was very well known that its crop back then which is 7+ years ago, and i think 555U came out to replace it. and is no longer available i think. Did you have to provide coded pats key for remote start?

Its been a while. model number might have changed...

The new DEI bypass for the Fords is the 556S which contains a chip in the unit much like the 1 in your key. Some installers still use the 555U or the newer 556U which is a universal bypass that requires a spare key to be located in the bypass. And of course there are other companies that make bypasses as well. When you had the unit installed did they take a spare key from you? If so, just for kicks, the next time the car won't start with the remote take the key you have in your house and insert it into the key cylinder then try the remote starter again. If the car starts the problem is in the key in the bypass. The newer Ford PATS key has been an issue. What many installers have found is if the key experiences a big change in temperature the code becomes weak. There are other PATS key issues such as the Ford Escape. When remote starting an Escape a keysense wire must key tagged to trigger the bypass to shut down when inserting the key into the key cylinder. Without doing this the car will see 2 keys and erase the codes.

Mity2 is a little rusty but he has the right idea.

It will still turn over. Go get a plain key cut and stick it in, itll crank til the batteries dead if you like but the theft light will flash and it will not start.

I have the 791 bypass module from Bulldog.
