Pretty much what the title says. Is there any way of telling what type of pistons I have in this 351w? It is a Jasper rebuild. I called them, but they sounded a little shaky on their answer. I believe it is either a cast or hyper piston, but I would like to identify them if possible.
There's no fool-proof way to tell. Cast will be the crudest as it is basically just a mold. Hypereutectic should have a shinier luster to it because of its high silicone content. Forged should be a very dense appearing material and generally will be a little heavier than the others. Sorry for being of no huge help, but maybe a machinist will be able to tell.
honestly, if you dont know just assume they are cast... that is your best bet. This way when they fail you can just blame it on the piston, and if they dont then you are one luck sob
