Is a sample tube type MAF (Vortech, C&L) with the correct sample tube equal to a programmed MAF? Basically I want to get Vortech’s MAF with a 19 lb sample tube, for now, because it is only $122 at summit and it will help wake up my new cobra intake. Now in the future will this work with a bigger set up (S/C 306). Even if it does have the correct sample tube for the setup, It will still have the stock MAF electronics?

I think you'd have to have it recalibrated for whatever size injectors you go with. Call Vortech and see if they do recalibrations.

I have the C&L(Vortech) 73mm MAF and all you need to do is exchange sample tubes if you get larger injectors. You do not need anything recalibrated. Although if you are going with a 306 in the future, i'd opt for something a bit larger like the Pro-M 80.

R.J.,. I ran both the stock maf, and a Pro-M 80mm maf calibtaed for 19lb injectors. With the stock maf, I ran a MAC cai, and it ran about the same as the Pro-M with the stocm rubber boot. It's not so much the maf as it's thje injectors you're running. If you're runnig bigger injectors, that's where the problems come from.

So your saying I would be OK if I ran a Vortech 73mm (with 19lb sampling tube) with my current sig?

R.J., C&L's are known for being a litle inaccurtae. But if you;'re running an otherwise stock motor, I don't forsee tehre being a problem. Like I said, I ran a Pro-M "calibrated" for 19lb injectos, on the stock motor, and it ran great.

I usually feel a ProM 19lb caled maf is a waste of time and money due to it being too small as the mods grow. Just use the stocker until you need larger inj's and then replace maf at that time.

The sample tube type of maf does do away with that kind of recal issue.

Do I think the sample tube 19lb maf is gonna give a noticable gain over the stock maf ... NO!

Maybe a small gain but not a big one.

If the different tubes are not expensive like having a ProM recaled ... what would it hurt to go to that maf cause, as I understand it, you only change the tube when you change inj's.

As for accuracy
1 OEM
2 ProM
3 Sample tube maf

That is what I've seen on all the various tuner boards where everybody can build and fine tune a transfer curve for the maf.

I guess it is worth a try. The MAF is only $122 bucks and the tubes are only $30 bucks. Thank for the info

yes the first combo i had on my car was a cobra intake 65 throttle body and stock maf with a cold air kit with those mods the car ran like stock but much stronger , i agree save the maf for when you need bigger inj.
