Vortech sc-trim VS afr h/c/i

Vortech SC 5psi VS AFR H/C/I
well i cant decided between the kit you see below from Ed Curtis or just going with the 5psi vortech kit. heres what i lookes like price wise....

AFR 165 emission heads: $1325
Valve Spring Upgrade: $125
Viton Seal Upgrade: $32
ARP 7/16 Rocker Studs: $25
Custom Camshaft: $325
Scorpion 1.60 Roller Rockers: $200
Billet Roller Timing Set: have

Misc.:
Head Gaskets: have
Intake Gasket: have
Timing Set Gasket: $15
Eaton Lifters: have
Hardened Push Rods: $112
ARP Head Bolts: have

then UPS shipping : 100 bucks as a low guess

so that ends up costing me about $2259 as a rough estimate.

then on the other hand if i went with the Vortech V-1 sc-trim with 5 psi i could pick that up for anywhere around 1600-1800 dollars. for those of you with the 5 psi do you guys have any dyno numbers on a stock short block, would it help alot to port my heads? also should i keep my edelbrock performer intake or will it not help that much. I need opinions quick because i need to get my car back together. which one would make more power? be more dependable? all that kinda stuff. thanks guys

I thought the A-trim was the 5-psi model and the S-trim was the 9-psi blower.

And where are you finding ANY Vortech blower kit for $1600-$1800??

They dont make the A-Trim no more. The SC-trim is its replacement. You can find the SC-Trim kit for $1650 from www.superchargers4less.com . I got the charger, but I plan on some motor mods later The choice is yours and yours alone.

you'll make more power with Ed's stuff than the SC-Trim...plus you will be reducing the weight of the car and not adding it on...Go with FTI...

it seemed to me that there was alot of different numbers with eds combos, and i know its not his stuff its how the car is tuned and set up but it seems me that with alot of guys they are just bolting on the SC and running some real nice numbers, eds combo would prolly beat the vortech adv. hp of 277 but i didnt think it would be over 344lbs or whatever vortech states on their site.

I don't think with 5lbs of boost you will see 344HP...more like 300 HP and that's not even to the wheels...and keep in mind you won't be at 5psi all the time...you're average might be between 4psi...Ed's stuff is proven. Peak HP means nothing.

I'm in the "same boat" so to say...I'm going to be buying a cheap daily driver (probably a 98+ Ranger..had one before and liked it a lot)...and then plan on doing the mods...

Hmm...SC trim 6psi and run it till I blow the motor...then rebuild with ported heads, good intake, cam, and all the other stuff you need or....do the rebuild with all the previous things mentioned and then put supercharger on later....????

are those numbers at the flywheel or rear wheel? I think I read something in one of the Summit ads but I forget if it was for the SC-Trim or the S-Trim that a stock 5.0 would have around 345HP or so...I don't know if I believe that if it is only comming from 5psi..maybe 9psi would net you the gain of 125HP...but I'm not a supercharger expert.

As far as an A trim/SC trim, I am sure that the FTI combo will make more power, and have better overall performance. Superchargers running 6psi or less just don't seem to impress me from what I see. If your going to get a Supercharger, go S trim, hands down. Really, I'd go turbo over any of them.

If your were to go with a S trim, it would set you up for room to grow. Boosted engines are built differently than n/a engines, so you could start bolting on big intakes, big heads, low comp. shortblock, ect.

Depends on your goals and budget. Personally, I would go with the FTI combo and if that doesn't quite kick it then get a little spray, that will definatly do it.

Actually if I may...the SC-Trim is much more efficient than the S-Trim and you can get the SC-Trim cheaper than the S-Trim and just add a pulley, a blow off valve, a boost timing retard and all for under the difference in price between the SC-Trim and the S-Trim...the only thing that sux is you will lose your warrenty from 3 years to 1 year if you switch the pulley's on the SC-Trim...but still worth it for $1700 rather than $3000+ for the S-Trim...

i hear ya 5spd gt, i believe those are numbers to the rear wheels, the 345 is for the S-trim vortech and is running like 8 or 10psi

yes with a power pipe and bigger pulley you could easily see 9-10lbs of boost from the sc-trim. I would buy the charger save the extra $$$$ then buy heads later blown cars are so fun to drive.

you guys think i should port and polish my stock heads while they are off? im gonna be running a performer intake. also will i need to upgrade injectors yet, im not really sure when it isnt safe to run the stock injectors anymore

Well I know your going to need a new fuel pump...preferably a 255lph...

What all comes in the SC Trim kit anywayz...and that could narrow down "our" choices on what else one would need...

Dang dude, me and you have a lot of things in common. We both are named David and we both have green stangs, and I have a 2000 Ranger as a daily driver and you said you wanted one. We also had the same decision to make. I went with the blower, becuase anything you add down the line will give big gains.

You can go on Vortechs website and see what all comes in the SC-Trim kit. It came with everything but the bypass valve and pump, oh and the BTM.

well actually with the 5psi kit you can run stock fuel pump i believe, im currently runnin a holley high flow 190lph

I just figured you might want to do that for future mods... ...that 190 will do ya just fine though...
