Vortech supplied tune?

How safe is the supplied tune that comes with the vortech kit? Eventually I will have the car put on the dyno and tuned but in the mean time will the supplied tune be safe while driving the car hard? I am guessing it will be making minimal power via the supplied tune?

Ripping on a canned tune with a blower is stupid.
Personally, I would baby it until it was properly tuned.

Canned tune=enough to drive to tuner's shop. Not much more IMO.

Why go all that way just to skimp out in the end? That's like working to get a girl butt ass naked, and then being satisfied and saying, "Thanks! You can put your clothes back on now!"

I am going to get her put on the rollers and tuned by a reputable tuner. Dyno tunes here in NY start at 500$ So it will probably be a month or two.

If the tune is from Vortech and the car was bone stock with a S/C then I personally would trust it. Even with other mods I would feel safe with it. Vortech is a large name with many years of experience and trust. They don't just go around blowing up engines. Their tune might not squeeze out every single last bit of power, but I'd bet my shorts that the engine will be safe. I mean, in all my years in this hobby I have never ever hear one person say that their engine blew up using a Vortech supplied tune. I've never even seen one thread complaining about this.

I'll agree, however, I've never read of any of those people driving the car "hard," as the OP intends to do. Normal driving around, especially until the car can get tuned, then ya I've read of that. But beating on it, no.

if you live in California the only legal way to drive it would be with the factory tune (AKA the CARB EO tune)...while I suspect many people do get aftermarket tunes, I also think that many people probably do "beat on" their Mustangs with factory Vortech tunes...

You have to figure that Vortech offers drivetrain warranties (on newer cars) if you buy their kit and have it installed at one of their certified shops. I think part of the warranty mentions that you have to retain the factory redline. And I do see that the certified shops all do dyno tuning...but if the warranty is only covered with the Vortech supplied tune then that says a lot about their confidence in their canned tunes. That means you can buy their kit, have a certified shop install it along with the supplied tune, and they're saying you can drive it however you want and they will warranty the engine and trans if it fails. They wouldn't warranty a product if it was gonna blow an engine...

True, but thousands of people have driven/raced cars on the canned Kenne Bell tune for long periods of time with no problems. And I feel like Vortech knows just as much about tuning as Kenne Bell. While I am VERY confident that there is a lot of power being left on the table with a canned tune, I feel like it is relatively safe.

If you have the means, log the AFR and spark timing. That's all you need to know to know if it's safe. <12.0 AFR and <18 degrees max timing (intercooled), and you'll be fine.

I agree sneaky... and I think Vortech is very serious about their name and products. I would trust their tunes and products with utmost confidence.

I did some research and it seems people who are running the vortech tune are trapping around 108-110. So with that tune it is def underpowered but I guess it is a peach of mind tune.

I been running the kenne bell tune in my 02 gt. But like mentioned earlier I gave them a bone stock car to work with and been driving it for a year now. I know this more in it but I am fine with it.
