vt 1 install over weekend

Everything went well. I installed the cams with the anderson tool. It works great. That tool was a life saver. I had the bbk valve cover which i dumped. It took me 3 hours just to remove the drivers one. Dont buy these covers they are junk. You will have leak problems too. The stock fors cover have a grove to install the gasket the bbk ones are just flat. I just wasted 200 bucks. But besides that the cams work great and sound good. I just wanted to know should i wait to get it tuned before i floor it??

it's recommend to get it tuned before any hard driving because there's no telling what you A/F ratio is yet.. mine was up and down up and down all the way through.

Just because you were unable to get the BBK cam covers on, doesn't make them junk. The drivers' side will go on if you loosen the brake booster so that you can move it out of the way about an inch. I've had mine on for several months now, no leaks.

I would also reccomend a tune before you go WOT.... Not worth knocking a hole in your piston due to an extremely lean condidtion

yea that was 330 and 409 at the wheels with a 100 shot and no cams. Cant wait to see what i get with the 125 and cams. Got to get it tuned this weekend.

thats sweet. is the difference in the sound at idle a lot different with the stage 1's?? i heard hotmustang331's car in his idle videos and think it sounds incredible. also wheres a good place to buy them?

also does anyone know if i can get my car to pass smog here (in cali ) with VT stage 1 cams if i put the stock H back on?

you will be able to pass smog with the stg1's but you will need the stock H-pipe

my mustang sounds silmilar to hotmustang. but the exhause sounds different i got the magnapacks with a catted h. It idles just like his tho. I took it for a ride after installing them i was at a light and the car shakes at idle. the shifter moves all over the place but its cool. But its funny i was on my way to my friends house and i was driving it felt like it lost lots of power but i said to myself its prob cause it isnt tuned. But when i got to his house i popped the hood and looked and realized the mass air sensor wasnt plugged in But the car still ran and started up no check engine light or anything. i wasnt the one who put the intake back in. I blame my buddy.

What is your impressions of the Anderson Cam Chain tool.

Did you have someone help you with the cam install. I hear that you need someone to hold the tool and the cam gear while the other installs the cams.

Curious as to how you did yours.

Sweet! One day I'll have the balls to install my own cams. I was wondering how you got 330hp with those mods, then I figured it had to be dyno'd on the shot. Post again when you get it tuned and let us know how much that changes things.

The anderson tool is worth its 30 bucks. I had my buddy hold the gear and the tool while i took out the stock cam and slid in the new one. It tough to get the cam into the gear the gear has to be walked off. The gear has to be almost to the front cover because the cam wont slide out through the back. I was shaking when i was trying to slide the cam into the gear. One slip with it and there goes a day job to a week job. The only complaint i got with the tool is its not that stong. doing the second cam it started to bend near the notch on the tool.

Thanks for the info. The details are very helpful. I'm about to go through the process myself.

good luck take your time remember to lube the cam up before instalation with some assembly lube and have it ready before u swap out the cam.

I personally dont reccomend the anderson tool at ALL. I bought it and tried to use it...but before we could get the cam unbolted fully from the cam gear the tool slipped off to the side TWICE! Had the cam been removed..= hello removing front cover. When your moving the cam around, the cam gear follows...and the side to side motion is what caused this. Its not stable at all.

Much safer alternative. Vice grips on drivers side( NO holes in cam gear) and a nice rod (something like a jack handle, or even the end of a rachet) through one of the holes in the Pass side cam gear.

This keeps it VERY stable, and worked like a charm. I wont even sell the anderson tool to anyone, unless they absoluty insisted upon it. To me it was that dangerous. JMO though

Genius!!.. Would this work as well with the VT Stage 2 and vavlespring install??

Well Jason, with the stg 2s your pulling the cam gears anyways...but when your ready to go back with the cams/cam gears then sure it will definatly help at that point . I dont think you can use the anderson tool anyways when doing stg 2s...its designed to work with the front cover on.(IE just pulling the valve covers to install mild cams)
I would just use vice grips on both cam gears for your application.
