Im looking at picking on up this month since its on sale right now. I have a few questions though.

- How would this engine do with my Vortech, would it make more power than just a forged 4.6?

- Also how bad would this engine throw off my A/F ratio? I dont want to have to drive it for a 1000 miles with it being extremly lean until I can get it tuned.

I know VT is a great place but I just want to make sure this is the right engine for what Ive got.

I have a Sean Hyland Motorsports Forged 302. I picked up roughly 30rwhp with the stroker over a regular forged 4.6. I didn't even need a new tune when I put the stroker in. I just got it retuned when I put the blower on. I had already had it dyno tuned to my VT Stage 2 cams the year before though.

what sale is it that there having on the stroker? what is the price? i am gonna get the forged vt...thought about the stroker but decided that the extra power isnt worth $1000 more. however, if it is on sale.

i just wonder about the reliability of the stroker.

Why would there be any reliability issues as compared to the 4.6  ? I have put 4500 miles on mine, 60 dragstrip passes with a supercharger putting out 10psi, and 450rwhp and not a hiccup. Don't be afraid of the stroker, except maybe at a stop light :D .

Well there was that rumor being passed around about the piston coming too far out of the bore, causing piston instability at high rpms. However, after Scott (I think it was him) posted up a picture of TDC with a stroker motor, that now seems to be a moot point. If you want to talk reliability, look at Jim Fitzgeralds motor... VT 302 stroker putting down 600+ hp to the wheels and running 10s no issues.

Thats a good example...Fitz's is a daily driver also.

Well the life difference would probably be very small. The stroker doesnt like RPM as much as the 4.6 for really 2 reasons.

A. the rods are longer, wheich means that there is more strain on the rod at higher RPM, vs a shorter rod.
B. the piston comes out of the bore, reducing high RPM stability

Option A is NOT a concern for us 2V guys....we cant rev high enough to break a rod, unless you set there and rev it in neutral to 8000-9000RPM.

Option B is also NOT a concern for us 2Vs....that issue would be for guys running WELL over 7000RPM roughly. Probably closer to 8500 ish.

In short, strokers are a great choice for us 2V guys...but BB is always better. BB/stroker= best.

where are you guys getting these prices? they are not listed on vt's site?

anyway, are there any negitives to a stroker as apposed to a regular stroke built 4.6...such as drivability wise or anything?

i know these engines are great for racing and they have been going 5000 miles or so, but what about how long they last. will these strokers still be going strong when there is 50,000 blown miles on them? i should hope so but what do i know. how about 90, 000 miles.

what is the life span of such an engine? i know this is a tough question because none of us are close to that on the strokers. i just wonder about other experiances with them.

ADRENLN, see thats the main problem... no one has had their stroker long enough to really comment on the reliability of it. I would also like to know if longevity is an issue, not because I am planning on running a stroker set up, but rather so I can better inform people that come asking this same question. I wouldn't see why the motor shouldnt last as long as a stock stroke 4.6, but I could be missing something.

Ok,speaking of high RPM,what is to high for stroker motor?Everyone saying that but none is pointing the actual RPM.........
My builder/tuner spine the stroker on the dyno to 6700 RPM and power bend was still up there, after hi was done tuning I ask him if that high rpm is to hard on the motor his respond was, you got good peaces in this motor do not be afraid to get on it,when racing shift at list at 6200.
6200 rpm is not high enough:shrug: ?
I think it is,and I am weary happy whit the performance the stroker give me.
I wish i went whit stage 3 heads and blower cams:bang: :bang: :bang: but for now I'll live it alone.

Also I ask him about how long this stroker motor should lest whit average Joe driving, drive normal and every now and than get on it,I say 40k maybe, his respond was, this set up is weary good,I don't se why not over 100k.
weal I am planing of keeping this car weary long,so we wait and se how long is gonna lest........................

A 5.4 has a longer stroke, and they put them in trucks that go 150K. No reason a forged stroker wont go even more. Nothing to worry about :nice:

yes true but the 5.4 block has a taller deck height to go with the longer stroke. Not being argumentative, just giving some food for thought. I do agree with your notion that they should last a long time, I just wish we had some concrete proof.

Well I think the problem is the speed that the piston is traveling in the cylinder faster in a stroker vs a 4.6, and this causes more wear on the rings. So i dont thing adding deck height will do anything, maybe make everything wear more due to more friction.
So a 4.6 stroker still doesnt have the piston speed that a 5.4 does, so from that angle it should last longer than a 5.4  .

But great food...definatly needs to be explored. If anyone has anymore input on this PLEASE post up...id like to know if there are any other things that cause strokers to wear more.
