VT Stage 1 cams on a stock Bullitt

:stupid: It irritates me to see people mod bullitts and mach's with irreversable mods.. exhaust/intake doesnt bother me.. but internal motor stuff does.. in the name of Mustangs everywhere, leave the cams and others alone :(

since when was adding cams irreversible? do they go in and permanently fuse themselves to the engine and no power in the world can take them off? having the engine bored out is irreversible, but other than that i'm pretty sure cams can be removed later on...

As long as you don't repaint it, take the bullitt emblems off, or start painting the interior, I say go for it bro. Just because it's a nostalgic car doesn't mean you shouldn't make it faster.

This is Bullitt00616 - i had to change my name as it kept bugging me that i read my car # wrong.

anyhow, Bullitts were originally rated at 275, then ford pulled it back to 265 as shades of the 2001 Cobra that came out overrated. Ford now officially goes by 275hp and dyno's support the 275 claim.

But if I go cams on a stock car, are there hp benefits? if so how much?

the aluminum intake, re-worked exhaust for power and the Bullitt sound, under-driven pullies sans crank.

im not sure if the cams are different too.

but ill hold off on the cams as i need winter tires soon.

Aren't the stock bullit cams regular PI cams. Those shouldn't be hard to come by if he wants to reinstall later. I say go for the Stage 1 cams.:nice:

He could simply keep the cams that come out of his car. Get a plastic bag...spray them liberally with oil, wrap them in plastic and seal them to keep the rust away. Store them safely somewhere ready to go back in if he wants to...

at the last dyno day i went to, there were 2 stock bullits, both dynoed the nearly the same as the one other stock GT there that day- 224, 226 and 223 for the GT, so its unlikely that the bullit is making 15more HP than the GT, more like 2-3..so the 265 rating seems more accurate...

i cant say why it happened, but 2 things:

1) my info is from Ford themselves - im friends with the GM of the largest dealership in my city and he looked into it for me.

2) check bullittarchive.com, also, BBK did an article of what it would take to make a GT faster than a Bullitt and theyre dyno of the Bullitt was in support of the 275 claim.

but ill get mine dyno'd just to be sure. ill keep you posted.
