Waiting for a 06 in mid Aug

i see that there are still a few Gts at small dealers that want top dollar ever though the 06s are around the corner in aug.Even if they are a few hundred dollars more its worth waiting for a 2006.My plan is to walk into a dealer and look around a bit and soon a sales person will run up to help me and i will tell him i am just looking but he will stick too me.Then i will look at his 2005s mustangs and sure he will say i can get a great deal,then i will walk behind his lot where they drop off the new cars and pick a GT out and tell the salesperson that i will buy the car for $300 over invoice.I might get the car or not but thats what i did when i got my 2003 mustang GT instead of the 2002 i was looking at.I am sure there will be many more GTs and maybe if i get there early when the first ones come off the truck i might have a chance.I think even if the dealer has a list he will see i am paying CASH on the spot.....

Yeah, that's my 'ideal' way of getting one, too. I'm hoping to walk into the dealer, just as they're dropping off a few GT's, and one of them hits me just right. One of my favorite colors with the right combination. Of course by this time I hope to have a really good down payment. I'm still saving for that moment!

But yeah, I'd hang in there, and eventually you'll get that 06 you want. Have you thought of ordering one? I know I have....I just wish they'd keep the Sonic Blue. I'm probably going to want the 18 inch wheels, too.

Went to a small dealer and he wanted $2000-$3000 over MSRP but he wrote my name and number if he gets any balck Gts in.But i think he will want top dollar.I am just going to go to a few ford dealers at the end of Aug and see if they have any new Gts in and let the salesman show me whats on his lots and then go look at the 06s in the back and make a offer.I am sure the salesguy don't want to lose a sale if i offer $300-$500 over Dealers cost.Johnny

Not to be a party-pooper ...I hope you can do it! But AFAIK all the remaining 2005 GTs to be built are already spoken for (i.e. they are special orders). Demand is sky-high on the car which is why now, some nine months later, dealers are still charging a premium of two to five thousand above sticker. I can only gather that because the dealers are still charging it, supply hasn't caught up to demand; thus some people are still paying it. You'd be awful lucky to have a dealer take your offer when he knows the worst he'd be likely to do is sell one at MSRP; he might still grab a few thousand more even than that. I am a cash buyer myself and had to go out of state to get my X-Plan honored - and that's a deal that should be a lock!

Granted, what you're shooting for is not impossible... but the situation back during the 2002/2003 model year was far different that that coming up for the 2005/2006... I wish you the best of luck!

The sales guy might not want to, but the dealers all know they can get MSRP or better on a GT within days - why would they lose that profit and sell it to you for $300 over invoice? Hell, the Stang is one of the few cars Ford has that sells without rebates or incentives - they're not going to kill the golden goose quite yet.

Now, a Ford 500 you could probably get a good deal on - has anyone seen one of these on the road yet? I'll bet you could get one of them at a good price

I am sure if you walk into a BIG dealer on Sept 1st and he's has just got a few GTs in you might get a deal,I don't think the Saleperson wants to lose a sale and have you walk out,and if you have bought a few cars from them in the past i really don't think they care if you go somewhere else.If you buy a 2005 Mustang Gt what do you really think its worth in 4 years???I am sure they will be making more each year so in 4 years from now it will be worth not as much as you think.I think they will be making many more Gts because they are getting stuck with all those V6s.There are still many Mustang Gts on dealers lots.What would you ratter buy at the price of $29,000 a Mustang Gt or a 400hp GTO....I would buy a GTO,,,,yes its not as nice but it kicks butt.But if i can get the Mustang GT at the price i want i ratter have the MustangGt and save a few thousand dollars instead of giving it to a dealer.

There won't be any GTs waiting on the lots. They are selling like crazy, and that's why people are already having to put orders in for 06s. They don't start building 06s until August so you won't start seeing them on the lot until September or so.

Well between the 05' orders that will not be built, and the # of 06' people on the 06' order list, our total right now is almost 30! That will take up the first few months of our 06' allocation! The dealership I work at does not charge addendums on the gt's even if a special order falls out and becomes available.

So not to rain on your parade but you probably won't run into a problem of a dealer having a bunch of GT's.

BTW, for the month of April, the dealership I work at was #6 as far as mustang sales.

Hate to also be a party pooper, but you'll have a hard time finding an 06 GT at a bargain price for a long time.

When the 2003s came out that was the 4th model year of that style Mustang, a far different situation than the 06 stang which is the 2nd model year of the new Stang.

Cash means nothing to a dealer. They rather have you finance it through them because they will make more profit that way.

5th technically.

I had a 1999, which was the first year of the harder body style.

Also, the '99-'04 models were still basically the same as the '94-'98 models, with a slight exterior freshening and a decent bump in power to the 4.6L V8. The 2005 Mustang is a totally new design with a totally new look - which helps explains the wild popularity of it this year.

Hoping there will be lots more of the GTs for 2006,I have seen a GT here and there at dealers for sale but did not want to go in because i know the newer ones will be out in 3 months.see many V6s on all dealers lots so i am guessing that they will make many more (I hope) for 2006.Funny if Ford didnot have the 2005 Mustangs most of the salesmen at ford would lose their jobs.I have a Chevy dealers near by i pass all the time but i don't think they have any sport cars that i care for.
As of now Its the 2006 ford Mustang GT or if not its going to be a GTO but not a Charger....................Johnny

opps i forgot,I had a 1995 Mustang GT and was going to get a 2000 Mustang GT but thought they were very ugly carssss but they grew on me.As i see the GTOs they don't look so bad with the Dual exhaust hood scoop and a few other little things.Andif you look at them they are not that bad looking at all.Johnny

Yah it's the demand is just too high to get it for MSRP if you do consider yourself lucky. I've been searching state to state for GT's...most used ones are getting MRSP some with over 4000 miles! Dupont Registry just sold a black GT with all options for 32K...it also had 2400 miles on it. I just ordered one and was quoted 31K for it...the dealer wouldn't even take my order with my original offer of 30K! But seriously can we complain? I mean look at this car...look at the engine! 30K is still a bargain imo..

I hate to spend over $31,00 for a GT when i know in 2 years from now there will be many of these cars around.I like getting a car every 2 or 3 years and if i buy a Mustang Gt for $30,000-$32,000 i know when its time to trade it in it willbe worth around $11,000-$12,000 from the dealer.
Just got a Email from Pontiac and they are having a GM Emplyees Pricing Deal.Feel the GTO will be around $28,500 with rebates and all so thats a great deal for a 400hp car.And if i do trade it in in 2 or 3 years it will be worth more then the Mustangs...Hey I like Mustangs i had a 1995,2000,2003 but leaves a bad taste paying over invoice....

Come Spring of 06 maybe a little sooner you should start to see some deals. They are supposed to triple production, but we will see. This is coming from the mouth of our General Manager so don't quote me. Just to give you an idea on how things are right now...we are having other dealers send us customers willing to pay a grand over sticker, and v6s have become hot because GTs are hard to get and they are selling over sticker or right at now.

Hummmm that sounds right,I think ford will have to make lots more of Gts for 2006...Since you live in Texas you should know whats hot lol...But here in NYC NEW Jersey and PA the V6s are not selling at all.I pass a few dealers a few times a week and the V6s are still there in the same order as i seen them last.I am sure they are selling a few V6s but most of the sales are for HERTZ on the V6s.Nobodys around here is getting Over Invoice on V6s but i can be wrong.But just driving by dealers lots there are many and still a GT here and there......

IIRC, this year they're pushing close to 200,000 production for the Mustang. I don't see a market for 600,000 Mustangs a year. If they made that many of them, they'd be discounting the hell out of them to move all of them.

Once the newness and novelty wears off, production will probably settle down in the 160,000/year range - just like before the new style.

Remember, the PT Cruiser and the New Beetle were once hot properties with long waits and high prices. Now they're heavily discounted and rebated. The same thing will happen with the Mustang in a year or two.

They will be increasing production but not by tripple....that would kill the industry...
