I am thinking about buying a supercharged 5.0 with a stock block (306). The car is pushing out 500 hp at the wheels. Am I buying a time bomb just waiting for the block to crack, or am I being paranoid about this. I have seen many 300 hp N/A mustangs on stock blocks take 200 shots down the track and stay together for a long time.

i would not get it without planning to upgrade the block and figuring that into the price of the car...this is my opinion..

Since this is an opinon poll, I'm moving this thread to the Talk section.

My own answer to your question though is this:

It all depends on what the current condition of the block and rotating assembly are and how you treat it when you drive it. If you rag it out, sure... you'll split it down the lifter valley. If you treat it nice, it could last a good long time.

How is the thing driven now? Does the current owner run it like Rikki-Racer or what?

There's also nothing preventing you from backing the boost down to a range that you feel is safe for the block.

i also agree fully with daggar but from experience i find if you have the power you will us it or someone else if you let others drive it thats why i'm the only driver of my stang.

yeah i'd be weary of someone elses built project... most of the time, they don't hit the market unless they think something might be ready to go...., (but not always). you also gotta assume a high hp car would have seen its fair share of abuse. why else build it...?

My car will have 500+ on the stock 306 block. And so is my neighbors, he's running 517 rwhp on his stock 306 block. It all depends on how many miles or years the setup has been run... Also depends if he drag races it? Then i wouldn't buy it without expecting to replace the block lol. My neighbors has last 5 years and is still going perfectly fine although he never goes to the track. But he does "get on it" alot. But no traction ha. His car is also a daily driver that sees 10k a year. It all depends on how you use the hp....
