Hey guys/gals,

I have Shorty headers and plan to do 2.5" pipes to 3" tips, just like the Cobra's, what mufflers will get me there? I heard that Magnaflows might be too harsh. It is a convertable and I only want to hear the roar when I open it up and a low rumble when at idle and at cruize speeds. Thanks for the assist.

Edit- I also will have an off-road X or H pipe?

Do you really want it to sound like an '04 Cobra or just make it sound better than what you have now? Good luck with getting it to sound like a cobra. You're talking about 2 very, very different engines.

Yeah the Cobras DOHC is going to have a totally different sound than our pushrod 5.0s... I don't know how you'd duplicate that sound, 'cept go buy that 390horse Cobra motor and drop it in tha FOX!

Head/cam 5.0 sounds 10x as good as a cobra IMO...more like old school muscle cars.

I'm just looking to get it sounding good without too much droaning inside the car. I buddy has flowmaster 50's with his conversion and it sounds kind of raspy. I want a deep, big ass engine, sound without killing restriction.

Hmm 2 sound like a 4.6 w/ ballz.......... , well for one thing, get an Xpipe, they will make 5.0 sound more like a 4.6, mine does . Then, get a cam that approximates their duration/lift, like .550"/210s, along with some good flowing heads. But in all honesty, you won't likely duplicate the sound exactly since I think that their firing orders are different, bore/stroke and their ratios are different, not to mention better manufacturing tolerances contributing to overall smoothness and refinement. And what is wrong with the famous 5.0 throbbing baritone boom?

Full exhaust borla's here with cats, a tad on the quite side, but with no cats it will be awesome. Especially with the 351 Im putting in. Id never buy anything but borlas, the tone is like no other.

Thanks guys,

There is a guy in my neighborhood who has a stang that sounds killer. I finally stopped him in the parking lot yesterday and got the info I needed. He has fairly similar set up as I do, ala gears, aod, shorties. (non modified engine though) and he has the Magnaflow catbacks, 2.5" exhaust, and 3" straight tips. Good deep rumble at idle and it sounds real tough when he gets on it.

Next step.. muffler shop...Soon... real soon!

Magnaflow is also a very high quality brand too. Right up there with Borla.
