So i was thinking of getting the mustang regeared. It has some 3.73s in it now but i was thinking of steping up to a 4.10 or 4.30s. I am not sure if i should do the swap or not. Right now i have eddy performer rpm2 intake gt40 heads and tfs 1 cam with 70mm t-body 75mm mas air, under drives, and bbk cai i am missing stuff but you guys get the idea all the normal bolt ons. So i was wondering if going to the gears would hurt me in the 1/4 mile or help. Also i only drive the car very little during the sumer and not much on the e-way so i could care less about gas. Oh and it is a 5 speed i was just thinking that with all the higher rpm stuff on it that it would be better to have a gear that got me to higher rpms better but i am not sure.

What gear and what RPM's are you at when you cross the line now? If you are just getting into the next gear when you cross the gears you are looking at will have you shifting a little earlier. If you are at the top of the gear when you cross the gears will have you shifting just before you cross. Really it all depends on what your car is doing now. I've heard stories about guys going to 4.10 from 3.55 and 3.73 and losing time because they had to shift again before crossing.

I don't race in the 1/4 but I would think you want your car just at the end of the gear as you cross or close to it. I would think shifting just before the finish would slow you down. May be better to try different tire sizes?

Well as far as saving for better heads i really dont want to put that kind of money in to the car because i really really want a 04 cobra and in about a year i will be getting one (fingers crossed). And i and shifting into 4th right before the line and i think it is hurting me. I have tryed holding out the gear and bounced of the rev limiter.

I had 3.73s in my car. After some carnage and stripped ring gear teeth, I decided to throw 4.10s in there, in a effort to not simply replace, but "upgrade".

I have NOT driven the car on the street. I have however driven around the pits, and raced the car. I notice very little RPM different and the cars characteristics have not changed.

I did however notice the car 60's better, but loses a bit of mph up top. The first time out on radials, track times seemed a bit slower with a mph or two lost. On slicks the times seemed on par if not slightly better, and the mph was about the same.

I'm not sure it's worth the time and money to switch such a close ratio of gearing.

if your intention is to improve 1/4 mile times, like mentioned earlier you need to study what your car is doing then use that info to picking the correct ratio. if you're just looking for a bump in seat of the pants feeling, drop in a set of 4.56s. i personally wouldn't spend the money to go from 3.73s to 4.10s.

I want the opposite. I have 3.73s and want to go down to 3.27 or 3.55s. 1st and 2nd are sometimes useless and with more power I want to keep in the power band longer.
