Finished up the welds on the rest of the exhaust piping:

Bent an exhaust hanger and welded it to the y-pipe:

This is the only hanger between where the downpipe mounts to the turbo and the tailpipes right behind the mufflers. I had everything tightened down and it seemed solid, but if I need another hanger down the road, I can just get one of those deals that strap around the exhaust pipe.

I also bought some AN adapters so I could tap my heater lines for the water feed to the turbo:

Because of the location of the flange and the way the turbo sits, I had to clock it slightly so one water line would clear the flange. It's only clocked about 10 degrees. The general rule of thumb seems to be not to clock it any more than 20 degrees, so I should still have adquate oil drainage.

I just need to weld up the turbo mounting flange on the passenger header and then I'm going to drop off all the piping at the local powder coating shop so they can sandblast everything. I want to make sure the imperfections in the pipes are all gone (or at least visible so I can fix them) before I send it away for ceramic coating.

See I think all this stuff is the fun part. When it's done, ( and you did it ) the satisfaction of having it is all the more sweeter. Especially knowing that you spent 1000.00, as opposed to twice that (or more) to buy a pre-made kit.
 
Well, I did technically buy a pre-made kit, but the price was low enough to validate me completely re-doing about 80% of it. Next time (which won't be for a long time), I'll build the kit completely from scratch now that I have the confidence and know-how to do so.

Thanks Mike. It is definitely satisfying building something from the ground up and being able to say you did (most of) it.
To be clear,...Since you admitted to NOT building the thing 100% from scratch, that is why you should ignore my compliment.
If you are just gonna warm up the left overs, you can't take credit for making dinner.:rolleyes:

Ahh, I see how it's gonna be. Just because I didn't cook the peas means now I get no credit for the rest of the meal! :uzi:
I've thought about this. If you consider that you had to reconfigure the kit 80%, (The actual dinner,..) That meant the 20% that you didn't have to reconfigure was equivalent to "cooking the peas"? I'll have to remember that one. That way when my wife tells me to get off the computer and help w/ dinner I can say That Scott says that microwaving peas is equivalent to 20% of the dinner.

My wife will laugh at that 100%.

Then I'll still have to wash the dishes........100%.

Ohh It's only the peas........ Let's go over this shall we? You said that you had to reconfigure the kit 80%. (The proverbial "dinner"). That left your actual true, from scratch fabbing at 20%? So,....in other words you think cooking peas makes up 20% of the involvement in cooking the dinner. I'll have to remember that one. That way when I have to justify my involvement in that night's dinner to my wife, I can say that Scott says microwaving peas is equivalent to 20% of the total work involved.

My wife will laugh at me 100%.

Then she'll still make me wash the damn dishes.


You're backwards :crazy: . I built 80% of the kit from scratch. The 20% is the peas that I didn't cook. Those were just microwaved. I did however, slave over a hot stove cooking the entire rest of the meal. Even made my own marinade for the steak. Maybe next time I'll even brew my own beer to drink with the meal! :cheers:
