New to the forum scene, but not to engines and mustangs. However, I just got a 93 lx with about 140k on the odometer, needs a rebuild of course. I was thinking about doing a twin turbo set up, nothing major as far as cost, cheaper kits on ebay will suffice for what I'm looking to get out of the motor. But I was wondering if anyone knows what is the best build/list of parts for this, i.e.; stock bottom end, cam, and heads, with a refresh, should work ok right? Any need to upgrade ignition to MSD? Not looking to go to the track, just fun on the weekends with a little extra punch if I want it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

twin turbo? what for? do a single turbo and a good block that will handle 600 hp. All that **** is gonna cost you bookoo bucks though. and yes, you will need to upgrade your ignition lol

Yeah, sounds nice, but that is more than i'm looking to spend. I don't want $4000 tied up in the motor. I figured with a "lower performance" turbo set up, nothing high dollar, that most of the stock components would work ok, and maybe would just need to adjust timing to handle boost. Just wanted to know if someone else has run anything similar to this. The turbo kit is a T3/T4 kit off of ebay, only about $900, supposed to come with everything to mount up. Like I said, i'm not looking for anything exotic and extremely costly, not going to the track with this car. Thanks again for the input.

the fact that you want "nothing major" but also want to do a twin setup is a bit contradictory, to be honest... if you're going to be running a refreshed stock bottom end and just want something fun for the weekends then run a simple single turbo setup, i assure you it will make enough power to unzip that stock block and leave you with a decent sized paperweight

so... buy a pair of BBK shorties, flip them and have a flange welded on and some V-bands, get a powermaster T70, ebay intercooler, BOV, WG, upgrade fuel sysem and ignition, boost controller, fab up a downpipe and coldside, wrap it all or get it Jet Hot coated, tune, and call it a day (i know, easy for me to say :D)

good luck with the build :nice:

Great advice. I decided earlier today about as fast as I decided to try the twin turbo set up, to scrap that idea for a single set up. T 70 was what I was looking at, just wanted to make sure that the stock "refreshed" bottom end would handle things ok. Also curious as to the best cam to run. Thanks again.

honestly, the stock cam is a pretty decent grind if you're on a budget, but i've also heard that the E cam loves boost

i'm sure there are much more qualified guys than myself on here who will chime in with some cam choices

Just bc it has 140k doesn't mean it needs a rebuild.. Are you thinking it needs a rebuild only bc of the miles??

I don't want $4000 tied up in the motor.

You can have 4k tied up in an engine in no time flat

I suggest not. Its cheap for a reason. Pretty positive those kits are junk.

1. How much are you looking to spend?
2. Why not just freshen your motor if it needs it and throw on a small vortech sc-trim?

I know it needs the rebuild, because the stem seals are leaking badly and so is the rear main. Easier to just yank the motor and overhaul it over the weekend than patch up the leaks. Probably just gonna just rebuild mostly stock for now, except the cam, and just build a good bottom/top end for boosting later once I can afford to sink the money into the right set up. No sense in rushing it I suppose. Thanks for all the help.
