I recently tried OneBadPolish on my intake, and it turned out with more fine scratches than before. I started with a small amount (dime sized) of the easy cut on a microfiber cloth and rubbed it into the metal until it hazed. I waited a few moments then wiped it off with another microfiber cloth. Am I doing something wrong? I also tried using the final shine and it didnt help. The only thing that helped take out a few of the scratches was some Mothers Billet polish on an old rag.

It looks great unless the light hits it at the right angle, then all of the scratches are noticeable.

you need a polishing wheel, drill, some tripoli, white rouge, and then something like mothers polish for the final polish IIRC.......

If you are at the latter stages and there are still fine scratches, it occurred at the earlier stages...mainly from uneven pressure with the sanding medium.
One Bad's polish is not causing them, it is removing the haze so the scratches that were already there are just now being noticed.

Yeah you can have it... just as long as I can have your BBK intake


It looks really nice at some angles, but when its outside in the sunlight the scratches show up. I should have just left it the way it was (when I took the pics there were only a few small scratches that were barely visible).

Should I go back over it with some tripoli and white rouge? Or should I hit it again with some 320 and then the compounds?

All I would say it don't go all the way back down the 320. You would probably regret that one! What about the green compound on a soft wheel? The green is about as fine as you will get on the wax based compounds AFAIK.

ahh...let me know. I have a Vortech intake going on as soon as I finish the polishing. I've had enough fun with this intake and it's time to pass it on.

My polishing experience is on Stainless, so take this FWIW. If you are struggling with scratches, and not polishing swirl, then you are going to have to hit it with the sandpaper again. I'm with Zero Signal though. I wouldn't go back to 320 unless necessary. Maybe 400 or 600 will get it out, and be easier to repolish. Don't give up, that intake looks sweet. It'll look even better when you stop staring at so critically too.

I have had very good luck with an orbital sander and 400 to finish..then I like a higher RPM grinder 20-30000 rpm and a swen buff. Aluminum hates direct sunlight..getting a "perfect mirror" finish will be short lived, but this method seems to provide a nice finished surface and mothers keeps it up nicely.

I would go over it again with the easy cut with a polishing cloth. I never use the microfiber. Prefer a polishing cloth. Just use slight pressure and the easy cut will take out the fine scratches. I have had many customers get back to me and tell me that their fine scratches came out after using the easy cut. Let me know what happens.

Alright, I will pick up the polishing cloth tomorrow and try the easy cut again. I think the culprit is the microfiber cloths, because they seem like they are putting more scratches in it regardless of what polish I use..

WTF Jeff ,you looking for guy who doing polishing stuff when you know we live in same town ,you know how many intakes,TBs, carb bonets i did for people
