Wanting to buy some paint.

Actually, looking for some clearcoat to use on my Pinewood derby cars.

A friend gave me some clear and hardener, in which you mix 2 part to 1. I have no more now, but I like how it goes on the cars....If I get enough, I will eventually use it on my own car.

Where is the best place on line to buy the automotive clearcoat and hardening agent?

go to an automotive paint store or a body shop they can get it for you.

clear is the most expensive part of repainting, try the omni brand, its made by ppg but half the cost.

Also, I noticed shopping around that there is an acrylic clear that goes on alone, and then the urethane, that requires an "activator". Does it really matter which one? It's for my little race cars, but If I get it, I will use it for the stang also.

Do you have any local forums? A local guy got me a great hookup on price for some single stage thane' (the non-reversable kind anyway get the names mixed up) for the mustangs bumper. It was a great match for the stock black even if it is easy-ish to match.

it was like 40-50$ for a pint for everything dupont. I had some left over and it would be good for a derby car...at least you could buff it without fear of going threw a clearcoat.

S. Fl, but there are not auto paint shops within about 10-15 miles of me, and they wont sell to the public anyway.

I would look into a hobby air brush gun and maybe a small detail gun. When I was younger and built models (jr high, whats a board country boy to do after blowing up stuff all day over summer break ) a buddy tried auto paint and we learned real fast how much it builds on a small model surface. The big guns just spray too much too fast.

A pint would go a LONG way painting pine cars.

Lemme check on the black...if its still good (not much left) I could send it too you to mes around with if you want.

I have a small airbrush, but it doesnt flow the auto clear right..I have an 8 0z auto touch up gun....It sprays fine..I have already been doing this, but Im running out of my "free samples"

I may consider the model lacquer with the airbrush.

I think that's the kind of thing Im looking for.

My friend had given me:

clear
hardener
reducer.

Im assuming you can use any reducer? I have a lot of that left over.

Also I guess the regular urethane should be ok..not the poly (more $$)

I would stick with HOK reducer. what brand of reducer do you have, because you may want to stick with that brand. the HOK clear is only a two part system, and you have a three part system so you will not be able to your hardner and activater.

I dont know the brands...the guy put them in plastic containers and labelled them:

Reducer
Hardener
Clear

The mixtures is 2clear:1hardener:10%reducer.
