Wanting to make some flush-mount tailights..

its the one thing I hate about the 65-66, the tilights...I just dont like how they pop out, If I could just make them flush, I would be happy with them. I'm sure it would require welding(to make the one hole in the panel into 3 seperate ones) then maybe find some small tailight housings(they sell a lot for things like trailers, just a matter of finding ones that look decent) ayone done anything similar?

I was thinking about the truck/trailer light idea for mine, they even come in LEDs. Not sure of the panel and light heights on the 65/66 but the LED truck lights are close to the 67 sizes. 6.75" tall I believe. You would most likely want to make a flush panel and mount them on the inside since their mounts aren't exactly pretty.

when musclecar TV was doing their 66 race car they flush mounted some mustang project led shelby taillights. they built some housings out of sheetmetal and cut the taillight panel and welded the housings in, basically frenching the shelby taillights. it looked wicked when they were done!!!!!!

They sell quite a few different sizes of trailer lights...I will probably go with the tallest that will look good on my panel...I would love to use a '67 tailight pane with 67 lights...but I took a few measurements and it just wouldnt fit right, so this is the next best option...I would like to see some pictures o those flush mounted shelby lights though

Only thing with flush mounted lights would be that the gas cap would be a pimple on the back. I'm sure you could get some red plexi and make a set of aluminum housings.

There are a lot of kits available for the street rod guys which mounts LED lights flush. You will have to do some welding. but these kits usually include the mounting housing etc.

I finally got around to measuring the tail light panel and I'd need lights about 5.25" high. The truck lights are 6.5" so that won't work, but I think I've found a way around that. I'll have to do some more measuring.

I plan on shaving the gas cap off the panel anyway and probably just moving it inside the trunk somehow(or perhaps using a fuel cell)
