War Admiral's Progress (Pics Inside)

Well, here are a few pics of what I've been doing to the Admiral. I got my 1.7 Cobra RR. Im cleaning up my nasty valve covers and finishing up my intake. I haven't had much time for my baby cause of school, errands etc. But now im going to get new hoses (mines are cracking). Oh! I put on some ponies and i got 2" lowering springs (progressive) and subframe connectors. Should be coming in some time in the next 2 or 3 weeks. i wanted specific rate springs, like my lx has. i got 600lbs in the back and 660 in the front and its a 4 cyl. lol Stiff like a mother

lookin good love to see the work as you put them on. I just got a set of SFC but i have yet to put them on. I dont know how to weld so I am in alittle trouble

any muffler shop, or decent mechanic can do it for you. im in the same boat as you. i dnt kno how to weld need to learn somehow

Its looks as though you are using some used parts...which is fine. Be sure to check those rocker arms thouroghly for cracks in the arm. I bought a set of used pedistal mount rockers last year only to find 3 of the saddles had cracks in them, I was able to get a new set of saddles for $15 but i am glad I caught it befor they were installed, broke and rattling around inside the valve cover.

ok, its a long story, so ima make it simple. Man O' War was the greatest race horse ever. which is the father of war admiral, and war admiral was the cousin or seabiscuit. they made a movie on seabusicuit. the ending race was between W.A and S.B. Its a race horse thing. so my brother has a 71 mustang, and since its the oldest one, he named it Man O' War. Then mine was 2nd oldest, named it war admiral, and my friends was newer than mine so he named it seabiscuit. if anything look it up on wikipedia.

Yeah ive checked and so has my brother. I just need 2 pedestals and a stud

Well, tomm is the big day. My car gets prepped up to go the the transmission shop. I finished putting the valve covers on, except for one bolt that im missing. and buying all the remaining intake hoses. So All the gaskets are on too. Meaning, my car will finally turn on again. But it now has the 1.7's, the cold air filter, 65 mm TB and blaster coil (now i need wires to compensate). bought a new speedo cable, engine flush, and oil. Im going to get the subframe connectors welded and bolted down, and hopefully buy my gears. Now im just waiting for my t5 rebuild kit so i can go get it fixed. damn snychros!!

Cant wait till tomm after school! Im gonna get to my house and work on my car Not only that but im going to go to the junkyard and grab a few parts, 2 new foxes rolled in. Oh and im gonna help my friend install a new starter. his is dying. it cranks real slow. And i believe thats about it. lol. man im exited! Ill post pics and video of my car when it turns on and take everyone in a joyride in War Admiral.

And a quick question, well, 2 questions. One is, what do you think if i make a CAI out of PVC piping and paint it black (fenderwall or under hood??). the 2nd question is,
if i buy the gears, is it just replace the old ones, or do i need anything else?

If you're doing rear gears, I'd recommend getting a rear-end rebuild kit and having your LSD rebuilt while everything is apart and out. And be sure to soak the clutch discs in friction modifier overnight before putting 'em in, if you're doing it yourself.

im deciding if im going to do it myself or not. i want to cuz its exp. and saving money, but i dont wanna f--- it up. The 3.55's im getting are on ebay that came off a crown vic. they arent anything fancy

What're you upgrading from when going to 3.55's? If you're going from 3.08's, it would hardly be worth the swap. You might get just a little bit of seat-of-the-pants quickness out of it, but I don't see 3.55's as being a worthwhile jump over stock. Nine times outta 10, 3.73's are the way to go.

Unless you've already bought 'em, I'd look for a set of 3.73 FRPP gears. Besides, used gears in general, regardless of gear ratio =

I'd read up as much as you possibly can, and maybe invest in one of those how-to videos on gear installs before attempting it. It's pretty easy to goof it up, from what I've read, and it requires a few special tools - you might be better off just biting the bullet and paying a shop to do 'em.

proabably will end up doing it, cuz if i mess up, i wont be able to even run it to the shop. but im upgrading from 2.73's

people have told me its a really good upgrade

3.55s are great, had em on two Foxes and they were perfect for my 5 speeds. 3.73s are a little better but on a budget youll be happy. Def get the rear gear replacement kit that has all the new seals and everything and have a PRO do it. If not youll be sorry with lots of noise and munched gears
Did you get the subframes already? If not id pass on the blue ovals and just order LMRs budjet ones. Better quality and the same or less price

ok, so today i finished putting everything on. i put the dist. how ihad it before and when i go to crank it up......NOTHING!!

I got so f---ing pissed. i checked for spark, had nice spark. Checked all the vacuum lines, all connected. checked the the fuel, getting gas fine. fuel pump working. tried priming it, no start. when cranking, muffler makes noise. sounds kinda like backfiring, but it might be cuz of the 1.7's giving more lift. not too sure. all cables plugged in. Starter works perfect. I have no clue what it could be. Anyone have ideas??? I was ready to take some video and pics, but nope, nothing. what a way to get disappointed. what do u guys think could have gone wrong? the only diff. from before the intake came off and now is the FPR, 65mm TB, MSD coil, 1.7 RR. Maybe the AIC is bad? TPS perhaps? i have no clue. PLEASE HELP!! i need to get the car running asao. my tranny rebuild kit came in today.

So yeah, plz, if you have any ideas on what it could be, share. and right now, dont joke around. im in a real serious thing here. my mom needs to sell her car asap and cant until i get my gt running.

I would bet ur dizzy is one tooth off. Very easy to do as I f-ed with mine for a whole afternoon. Set it at tdc and restabe with rotor facing #1. Bet it starts.
