warranty for brakes only 18000?

So i had to take in the stang today for two problems, the first is the front passenger seat squeeks , and the second is whenever I apply the brakes when its cold out the emergency brake light comes on. So according to this new guy they have working at my local dealership the braking system is only covered for 18,000 miles and decided to slap a $42 charge on me even before cheaking out the car. He said it was most likely the master cylinder fluid level setting it off (it was a tad bit under the max line). I really skeptical of him charging me for this because as to my knowledge the Factory warrenty is bumper to bumper 3 years or 36000 miles. Also I have the Premium Care extended warrenty which is good to 100,000 miles. Even if the tech is right about the 18,000 miles on the brakes then wouldnt my extended warrenty come into play somehow and save me a few bucks. Also the car has 22,000 miles on it give or take a few. Any help at all would be greatly appriciated from all. Im going to pick it up tommorow and plan on not emptying out my bank account. Thanks!

I could understand brake pads not covered under warranty because they are a consumable... but that.. is B*ullSht.

That is ridiculous. If its not the pads or rotors then they need to fix it under warranty. Besides, you would have to absolutely kill your brakes to wear them in 18k miles, so it is hardly wear related. He is trying to pull "breaks are a wear item" game...that won't fly at ford dealers I go to. Don't fall for it and I wouldn't pay anything. Take it up to a higher level at ford if you have to.

Pads nor rotors are covered fully in the 3/36000. Most manufacturers cover them for the first 12/12000.

I hate to tell you but I have seen several brakes systems wear within 10k and yes they are a wear and tear item. Why would you warranty something for 3 years or 36000 miles that is designed to wear down? Think about it.

If it is something else like the parking brake needing to be adjusted that shouldn't be an issue, same with topping off the fluid.

Extended warranties cover certain items when the car is past the factory mileage on that warranty. Most ESP warranties don't cover as much as the factory unless you forked over the big bucks.

Write an e-mail to Ford corporate, and talk to a service rep there.. you can voice your concerns to them, and if the dealership is screwing you, they'll contact the dealership for you.

We'll today im going down there, its not the brake pads or rotars it seems to be an electrical problem with the brakes according to the tech down there, ive never seen this guy there before so i am assuming he is knew, but i cheaked out on Ford's web site and they said that the emergency brake system is covered under that ESP program, the pads and rotors have much life left so i know that wont be an issue most of the miles are from the highway from school and back, ohh well, i know the service manager pretty well after all ive been in there for a new tranny, 3 air conditioning units, countless engine noises (valve train) so ill talk to him about it hes a pretty helpful guy. Ill update this later and let you guys know what happends, thanks for the help

Not to hijack your thread, but please post what the problem was with the brake light coming on. Mine did that same thing the other morning when it was cold outside. I've still got 2k miles left on the warranty, so I might need to take it in.

If it's still under warranty, why not just bring it in and let them deal with it?

Theyll blame it on your O/R pipe making your car vibrate so much that it made your brakes fail

It is true, brakes are considered a wear item and only covered for the first 18K miles of the warranty.

Now, the BRAKE light coming on can only mean 2 things. Either your e-brake is up or your fluid level is low.

The fluid level can only run low if there is a leak (covered by warranty) or the pads are worn and the pistons in the calipers are extended (not covered by warranty)

The BRAKE light is supposed to be a warning light designed to go off before the pads are bare and you get metal on metal in your brakes.

Now, it's BS that they charged you $42 just to look at the car. If they inspected and found a leaking brake line or leaking Master cylinder or something causing the low fluid, it would be covered under warrany. If they look at the car and find that the pads are low and that's why the fluid is low, well then you gotta eat the charge on that one.

ya, the only manufacturer that covers brakes under warrenty is BMW. they have unlimited services on their new vehicles for the first 50k miles. including brake pads/rotors, and clutches. brakes ARE a wear and tear item. howevr if its an electrical problem or leak causing the level to drop then it should be covered under warrenty.

The tech called today and said everything was covered under warranty, even my sqeaky seat (they ordered me a new one free of any charge) the parking brake was the fluid level low like mustang5L5 stated, as for that stupid charge im not sure if it is gone, but i pick up the car tommorow and ill just have to wait and see. He also said my pads and rotars have about 70% left in them which isnt that bad considering my dads 01 cobra needed them at 40,000 and i have more of a lead foot than he does. Ill post again when i get tommorow, next thing im taking it in for is the slop in the drive train... Hope it goes well. thanks!

Yeah, you're right. I took the H pipe off when I took my car in for warranty work on the transmission.

welp i got the stang back today with a $32 brake inspection fee. According to them everytime they look at the brakes or any component of the braking system they have to charge an inspection fee... I delt with it and just payed
the lady didnt seem very happy already so i didnt make her day any worse. But do you guys know if that "brake inspection fee" is bulls*** or is it an actual charge?
