Good Morning to all,
Just wondering if anyone has had to take their car in for any defective paint issues. I have a 2013 GT that has some bubbling and peeling paint on the hood. According to their warranty online, paint is covered for 5 years for perforation due to corrosion. I have had the bubbling for a while now and recently the paint has started to peel. I am planning on taking the car to the dealer next week to see what they say. If anyone has had any similar issues, I would love to hear about your experience(s) and or any advice, Thanks!

That is typical on all S197s. Luckily, Ford changed and went from steel to aluminum on the S197-2 (2010-2014) hood. Your hood is aluminum and I have heard Ford won't cover the rust Warranty on the paint because it doesn't actually cause "rust"... it causes "calcification". I had my hood individually re-painted for $300 because of this. I then noticed it started a little bit under the hood at the seal... looks like a poor sealing issue. I sanded it down and touched it up with black and clear paint and it stopped it.

If you're still under the 3/36 they should approve it after dealer sends them pictures of the bubbling paint. After that no dice, BlackBuggy is correct because it's aluminum it doesn't actually perforate.

I know that this is an older thread, but I'll add to it. The bubbling of paint on the front edge and even the sides of the hood was a problem that was fixed under a TSB. Something about water migrating into the hood under the seam causing the paint to bubble. It can get bad enough to affect the whole hood. I just got my '11 back from the second repaint, as it started bubbling again. If you are still under warranty, I believe that you can still get it done. Either way, you should have gotten a letter from Ford instructing you to bring the car in for inspection. It is the only way I knew about the problem.

The paint is covered under the 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty that came with the car.If your car is still under that warranty then you should have no issues getting it repaired. If your warranty is expired I would contact Ford Customer Service and ask for assistance with the repair, being that it is a known defect. If I recall correctly there was at least 1 person on this board that got some assistance from Ford and didn't have to pay the entire cost. If you end up having to pay for the repair yourself I would pull up the TSB and have the body shop follows the repair procedure to reduce the chances of it reoccurring.

The stealerships never provide information unless they have to. I am still waiting on my new Takata passenger airbag... wondering who I might kill by proxy one day until it gets replaced.
