Washed the engine and water got in coils...

took some bad advice and washed my engine down with water which got into all the coils... had my mechanic "fix" it which he said he had to suck out all the water in the coils.

now its running "back to normal" as opposed to how it ran with the water in the coils, but it seems a little different.

the power is back, but the sound of the exhaust is more gargled at WOT and especially at the lower rpms. now im not sure if the water has screwed my valves up somehow and causing the engine to sound differently or if its just all in my head?

anyone have any input? thanks

I remember reading a MM&FF where they managed to get some water into the plug holes on their Lightening. They pulled the plugs and found some of them destroyed. Maybe you should check your plugs. I doubt anything happened to the valves.

I recently cleaned the engine for the first time on my newly aquired 2001 GT (12,000 miles) and had the typical poor performance & rough running condition for a while. Although performance has improved, I still have a slight occasional miss / bucking most noticable while in overdrive (I have an auto) at low rpm's. It's very strange. I've cleaned many automobile engines & never had a long term running problem. I'm going to check the plugs in the next day or 2 & hopefully I'll find the problem. Otherwise I'll have to test each coil pack to see if that's the problem. Feel free to chime in with any suggestions.

I wash my engine almost monthly and I never have any problems.. Are you leaving the engine running while spraying it down?

nope.. i actually let it dry overnight

maybe that was my mistake... i should have started it and driven for a little afterward?

never had a problem doing that with mine before. i dont cover anything up. all i try not to do is get the battery, alt, and coils too wet or spray them directly with the hose.

I wash my engine all the time and I have never had a problem. I always wash it when it is cold and then run it up to operating temp after to dry it out...

I sprayed down the engine in a previous vehicle and ended up having to take it to the shop.. I paid for that mistake once and will not do it again. It takes all of 10 minutes to wipe down the engine with a rag. As long as the engine is cool its simple. You may be able to spray it plenty of times without a problem but why take a chance?

I do the same. Never had a problem, but I wash it using a setting on the hose that is not going to drench the engine, rather give it a good wash. Then blast it with air and drive it around to vaporize the rest of the water.

I actually wash mine with a power washer at one of those do it yourself car wash's.. I just leave the car running while I'm doing it and I spray everything down... It's never hesitated or anything.. I drive it for about 10-15 minutes afterwards just to let the heat dry it off..
