Water damage progress thread (Lots of pictures)

Unfortunately no. I've been sick. I did manage to get to the wiring cut out of an 89 4cyl vert. Somebody had already removed the drivers seat so it made my life easier. I'm waiting on my new PA Performance mini starter (today) and my replacement MM clutch cable (Monday). Hopefully will get back over to the car Tuesday and get everything replaced.

ooohhh....that makes sense. Yeah, I noticed that these seats had the seatbelt buckles attached and I was thinking about leaving them if the belt can be used as is. The plastic supports on my belt buckles are broken to bits. don't know if they will fit between the seats and the console.

I think they will clear the console, but the male belt part of the seatbelt buckle from a fox will not fit the later model female parts. I tried it. I actually have all of the seatbelts from a 2003 Cobra that I hope to be able to make work on my car someday.

Well that answers that question. heh. I guess I'm unbolting the latch from the seat & ordering new support plastic for the stock belts. Thx for letting me know.

Made a little bit of progress. (unfortunately I forgot the camera). Got the fluids changed....much to my dismay the tranny fluid looked like Pepto Bismol. I just hope that the water didn't do any damage to the guts. I don't know how much water got in, but it looked like the same amt of fluid came out as I put back in.

Unfortunately, I couldn't start it up. I went to go put my PA Performance mini starter on, but as is my luck, I didn't have a socket big enough to remove my MM K member brace. So I unbolted the starter but I couldn't get it out past the brace. And the starter cable was rusted and broken, so I need a new one of those as well.

Fortunately, no water got into the engine oil or the axle fluid.

I also started on the wiring. I got the fuel pump relay wiring fixed (had to replace two corroded wires) and adapted the plug for the 2001 seat on the drivers side. Luckily I have the actual plug that goes to the seat, so I was able to just cut the corroded stock pigtail off the wiring and solder on the replacement pigtail for the new seat.

Tomorrow I will finish the wiring up and get the carpet in and get the front seats boted down. I'm not quite ready to mess with modding the rear seat yet....but I hope to have the front seats bolted in and drive the car home tomorrow.

Getting there....

Only had the cell phone for pics, but its coming along.

Got all the wiring fixed...what a PITA that was. I ended up having to replace 5 different connectors and two of the wires on the fuel pump relay. I still have to do the wiring for the lighter and power mirrors, but since I haven't had those plugged in since the mirror switch caught fire last summer, I'm not in a huge rush for those.

Got the backs of the back seats modified and installed.

I think I'm gonna have an upholsterer fix the holes at the top seeing as how the plastic SN95 brackets that came on my new seats were broken at the top right where it would cover the hole. Also, I think I'm gonna get the darker grey hatch carpet so that the backs of the seat match up w/ the hatch. the mismatch looks kinda crappy IMO.

Also got the carpet mostly in and installed the passenger side seat and belts.

Going back this weekend to finish the other side and start modding the bottom of the back seat to fit. Still have to swap the clutch cable too, but I'll do that right before I get the drivers seat in.

The drivers seat should be interesting because of the height difference. I'm 6'3" and sitting in the passenger seat my head was almost at the glass. I might have to roll w/ the seat all the way back to be comfortable. heh.

I would have had all this finished a while ago, but my buddies garage has no power, so as soon as the sun goes down at 4 I'm pretty much stuck. I had to use a flashlight to light these pics (stupid no flash iPhone).

Looks good, but might I suggest you put the center pivots for the back seat backs INSIDE the seat cushion? I did mine that way, and so did Mike - Mustang5L5, and the seat backs meet a lot closer in the center with virtually no gap. And have you seen my pics on the seat bottom install? They are in this thread on pg 3: 2002 seats in a 1991 GT How to get them in?! - Corral Forums

Finally got my old pics reloaded by my website host! Yay! My original pics are on page 1 of the thread. You an see how close together my seat backs are on that page.

Gosh I didn't realize that I put those seats in over 5 years ago, close to 6 years now! Time flies!

Nice! Was that your car before the flood, or did you buy it like that?

BTW...I want to convert the rear 99-04 seats for my hatchback. Do you have any more pics or can you post/PM me the details on what you did to switch everything over? Thanks!!

Here's my flood damaged car. It was within 3" from completely covered with brackish water during hurricane Ike. It's been sitting out for a year now and I figured it would be rotted out by now, but it's not rusted at all. I'm going to gut it and make a drag car. I've got to replace the wiring with one I took out of an SVO. It still has water in the side marker light.

Same T-Top GT I've had for almost 8 years now. This is the 2nd time I've gutted and replaced the interior. Albeit the fist time I reused the stock seats.

Converting the seats was a sinch. All you have to do is take the stock seats apart and remove the black plastic backer that contains the latch. Open the seam on the bottom of the new seats and the plastic backer in those just slides out. Slide the Fox3 backer w/ the center pivot attached back into new seats and reseal the seam. Bolt it in. Done.

I probably will go back and put the pivot on the inside as well as do something to seal up and conceal the hinge on the outside. And yeah, I've read about the rear lower mods using the cut 2x6. I was wondering though...where do I get the retaining clips? can I just grab them off of a junk SN95, or can I get them from the dealer?

I pulled mine from an 03 Mach 1 a friend was parting out, but any SN95 should have the clips. A dealer should have them but at a $10+ price I bet! I would use a cut 2x8 or even 2x10 if I did it again. Look back at my pics and you can see the gaps on the outer edges. That can be taken up with the extra width.

Look at my thread I posted above. I have a lot of pics of my install I did about 5 years ago. It really is just as easy as Prime Lord said on the seat backs. Hardest part is cutting the backing for the latch opening.

You did the "proper" welded in metal mods for the seat bottoms on hack job, which BTW was a gem, but I did my seat bottom bulkhead in wood which works just fine for me. Pics again are in my thread in post #28 above.

Thanks for the info. And yes, any 94-04 Mustang, coupe and convertible has those latches.

i just started on the rear seats on mine i took mine apart and i came up with an idea.you can probably plastic weld the plastic that is broken on your seats and then wrap them in the same leather material.i am going to do this to mine and mine are not broken i a plan on plastic welding the opening shut and then wrapping it in the same color leather.i will post pics when i get to that far i have to borrow my friends welder again so that i can weld the a metal bracket for the front mounting pin.

Got the interior put together.

I'm pleased with the way it has come together. I still don't have the bottom of the rear seat bolted up. Its just posed for the moment. I managed to get the seat retaining clips from the dealer for $8 each and I didn't have to mess with a junk yard.

I'm hoping to have the car back on the ground Saturday. I should have the rear seat bolted in properly by then.

Looks REALLY good! I had my seat bottom "posed" for about 4 years until I finally got off my lazy @$$ and fixed it properly. The buckles did a good job of holding it in place, but I couldn't let Mike finish his interior before I finished mine! LOL!

That is not too bad for the clips. I figures the price would be in the double digits for each one!

The clips were supposed to be $13 each. But I know everybody at this dealer so I het the hook up price.

the carpet didn't go in as nice as I had wanted and I had to get creative on some of it but no one will notice. Now I need floomats.
