Water in headlights

Brand new headlights from mustang warehouse, i take the car outside to hose it down and the passenger headlight fills halfway up with water... WTF.

I took the lights off, let them dry as best they would dry, and sealed the edges with clear silicone (got that idea from another member). There is still some water droplets inside the housing.. will they evaporate over time from the heat of the headlight bulb or should i let them sit a few more days to get all moisture out?

I had the same problem. Instead of buying new headlight covers I drilled three small holes in the bottom of the headlight (origonally as a quick fix to keep from replacing the bulb every other day) but I haven't had a problem since. Gotta love shady tree machanics.

drill a tiny hole at the bottom under the lip so they dont get water in them when it rains...but it will let all the moisture come out

I siliconed the edges all around them... thats how they are origionally supposed to be. They have two vents in them with rubber hoses...

Just wanted to make sure the little water thats in there will get out?

Let them sit.. if they're sealed there's no way the water will evaporate out. I had this problem and whenever it gets warm out the water condenses all over the lense... it looks really bad

What you CAN do to speed up the process is to take a rag and attach it somehow to the end of a stick (tape, staple, etc) then wipe out the inside of the lens with this ghetto setup. Worked pretty good for me

Remove the lens assembly & submerge it in a bucket of soapy water. Then try to blow it up like a balloon. You won’t develop enough pressure using lung power to damage the lens, but you might find the leak.

My lights are all dry on the inside now, and the silicone has settled. I plugged the vent holes and blew into it and got lots of pressure, no more leaks!!

yeah, I had that problem with my stock headlights...made sure I sealed my clears with silicone before I put em on my car.

will sealingn corner lights with silicone prevent condensation?

I just put some new corner lights on my ride and I get some minor condensation when it rains. Will sealing these things up with black silicone prevent the condensation?

bcm: Ya, but i would go out and buy a tube of clear silicone so it doesn't stick it. Make sure your lights are nice and dry, and put a bead of clear silicone around the edges. Smooth it out for a good seal and let it dry... no more condensation!

will do! a little silicone trick for you all:::

smooth it out with an ice cube vs. your finger. You get a really nice smooth edge!

My situation is even wilder I guess.

I had a little spider crawl up through the vent holes in the lights and it died in there. Right in the middle of my new clear corner turn light. It looks like a little black dot on them now. Hopefully it will fall apart or something and fall to the bottom. I tried pecking on it but the little guy wasnt moving. Oh well, thats just about my luck. I dont have problems with water but I end up having a spider problem.

I replaced all 6 fronts when I repainted my car and the new ones let in some water also. Just moisture though as shortly after they clear up, but I would think it wrecks havoc on the electrical harnesses which house the bulbs wouldn't it????????????????????

I have this problem when I use a powerwasher more often than with just a plain garden hose with a simple spray nozzle.

You can run a fine bead of clear sylicon sealer along the seams of the lenses and then just spit on your fingers and smooth out the beads. Let the lenses dry and skin overnight and the next day you can simply rub off any overspill of sylicon on the lense WITHOUT having to use any sort of Goo-Gone cleaning product. I did this when I installed my clear LX tail-light lenses last fall. Look pretty good actually.
